What kind of exams do we have for clinical rotations? How much do they count for the final grades?

We don't.

I really think we should because we're unique among the better schools in the Caribbean that we don't have any sort of accountability during the clinical rotations. Even if the school thinks that Shelf exams (which St. Matthews uses) are too expensive, the various clinical deans employed by the school should make up exams for us, as St. Georges does.

This lack of accountability leads to students simply not showing up to their rotations which is not uncommon to students doing poorly on Step 2, both of which make the school look bad.

Here's an example. I signed up for a Peds rotation at St. Joes, and later ended up dropping it as it was not Greenbook. A month later, I get an evaluation from the department giving me straight A's - though I never showed up and never met the guy who evaluated me.

Hey I'm doing a blue book surgery rotation at Penninsula. Is this going to hurt my chances for licensure? I heard it does have a shelf, but I thought that our school does not have shelves?

The new director of Psychiatry (?) visited with us at St. John's in NY and he is implementing an exit exam. It is based on a specific text. I didn't have to take it when I left but that will change quickly I am sure. It does lend some credibility and allows the school to quantify your rotation, not just subjective evaluations.

You should be ok if you are seeking licensure in New York State. Dakota compiled a list of states that require Greenbook cores. You can follow the link in my signature for it.

That's a good news. I start at St. Johns next Monday.

What about Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and NJ (with regard to blue book surgery rotation in Penninsula and licensure)?
