I think we have previously discussed grading at SGU. All classes are graded on the usual scale: 90 and above=A, 80-89=B etc etc.
At times, professors will assess the performance of the class as a whole and decide to add a few extra points to the whole class. There is no "curve" system of grading. Usually grades are on a bell curve statistically and naturally.
As an example: Anatomy has both a lab component and lecture component. I can't remember how the actual points are allotted but there are two lab exams (consisting of identifying structures that are tagged) and two lab quizzes (where students present a certain part of the anatomy to their peers then take a quiz afterward). There are also two exams in the lecture component (midterm and final) and two "unified" quizzes. All of these exams add up to a total of let's say 200. So if your total score after all these exams was 180 then you get an A (i.e. 90%).
If you got 178 you'd get a B but if the prof decided to add 2 points across the board then you'd end up with an A.
hope this helps
