Can Fil-Am's who attended med school in the Philippines give some suggestions, ideas and recommendations on places to reside while in school. I realize this depends which school you went to. For example, around UST I believe there are plenty of multi-unit apartments. Are there any good ones around the area? Are they walking-distance? If not, how do you commute?

UP-Manila? UE-RM? FEU? DLS? St Lukes? etc?

I believe for UP, UST, UERM and St Luke's there are many condominium units or apartments of studio types available for accomodation especially for UST and UP. I'm not familiar with FEU so I leave it to those who studied at the said school. For UERM and St Luke's there maybe several living accomodations possible though I do think that perhaps you might need to commute for a short distance.

There is a nice apartment unit right next to the school... ask Ma'am de los Reyes (the registrar) to hook you up. The rent is reasonable for manila (I think 6000 or 7000 per month?).

You could rent at a dormitory near the University belt in Recto.

Its been awhile since I've been in the Philippines. If anyone has the time, please inform me of how its like to be in the Philippines. From what I remember(back in '98), it's hot, crowded and a very easy going country;however, I haven't been to Manila and I think my school UERM is somewhere near that...or is it quezon city?..lol..anyway, any information would be great. Oh, it would be greatly appreciated if you mentioned how people interact there. I don't want to come across as aloof(damn individualism in Canada..lol ;P)

I don't think it changed much (except for the crowded infrastructures). UERM is in Nagtahan, Sta. Mesa Manila (St. Luke's is the one in Quezon City). I don't think you'll be alone as there are some Fil-Ams there too. As long as you are nice to others and respect authority, you'll survive (hierarchy is important there especially respect for teachers).
