"UMHS has established a financial aid program that will help students cover their educational expenses. Student loans and institutional scholarships will be available for those who qualify."

This statement appears on the UMHS website. Once the applicant has received their admission letter and Welcome Packet, they will work with the Office of Financial Aid which will help them determine eligibility for available loans and scholarships.

I realy like what I hear so far about the school and it is wonderful that every building is built so student don't have to goto classes in rented hotel rooms. The question I do have is wether or not the school will be applying for FFEL loan program in the US and if already did when should it become available? This is one of my big deciding factors in applying to schools cause I have no co-signers and I don't know any of my family to ask so can anyone shed some light please cause I really like this place so far. They made to my top 3 to apply to.

We intend to apply for participation in the FFEL program in the future but for now we are not eligible. We are using the funding program provided by CitiAssist Health Professions loan.

If you need specific information about this program, feel free to contact the New York Office and speak with the director of financial aid. She is the most knowledgable person about this area.

I understand that the university has an agreement with citibank. However, correct if I am wrong, that loan is only for the tuition amount. My questions is, what do you do for the other expenses (like food, rent, books, etc)? Do you have to go through a private loan on your own?

I believe it states that this citibank loan is for the total cost of attendance and not just tuition

IAUPREMED has the more correct understanding. For details about financial aid, please feel free to contact the New York Office and speak to one of the Financial Aid representatives. They always have the most accurate information involving this area.

Are the citibank loans a guarantee that it is here to stay throughout my medical education? I know that is a big guarantee and I applaud the fact that UMHS has these loans. But can you please tell me as long as my credit is good, will I ever have issues financing my education?

If any school "guarantees" that their financial aid package will be in existence for the entire time you are in school, they had better be funding it themselves and you should get it in writing! I think most of us thought that Sallie Mae was solid and we were wrong! Who thought that Teri would have problems? Even the best can get into trouble.

While we have NO indication that Citibank loans will not be around for the foreseeable future, we cannot make such a guarantee. We believe that the loan program is solid but no one can read the future so far in advance and no reasonable person will tell you that you will never have finanical issues during your education.

I'm sorry that this is not the answer you are looking for but I think it is the only honest one.

Thank you UMHS official, at least some schools like to be honest about this issue. Well I just hope that whether it is citibank loans or any other company that as long as there is a credit based option, that would be great.
Im sure with a great admin and Dr. Ross's reputation, UMHS will always have a loan company one way or another.

Hey guys, I'm about to start my 5th semester at St. Matthew's, and our loan situation is pretty awful right now. I'm considering a transfer at some point very soon.

Can anyone give me some feedback on your Citi loans? How much can you get; do they cover everything? Do you need a cosigner? How easy is the loan to get?

Any comments would help me out a lot. Thanks.

I would say as long as you have good credit (650+) then you should be fine. I found it easy to get a loan with citi at UMHS. And its enough to cover everything.

With co-signer (credit of 806) and me credit of 758, its taking 2 weeks so I don't know whats up. Everytime i call they tell me to call tommorrow because lenders are busy or they need more info, or some other excuse. If not approved tommorrow I will just do it without a cosigner

Took only a few seconds for mine. No bad credit, but alot of debt. Their rates are also atttractive.

I do not know how sufficient the loan amount is for those with families though. But yes, for a single person, it's more than enough in my opinion. Go here (http://www.umhs-sk.org/images/stories/9-08__financial_planning.pdf) to know more including the max amount you can borrow.

Good Luck!

Credit reports are pulled from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

Depends on what state you reside in. I know they pull Experian for California!
