Hey guys
I was reading that Saba doesn't have any beaches. Is this because Saba is a relatively "new" island? Like it hasn't been around enough to have it's edges erode into sand, etc?

Saba is a dormant volcano I think (correct me if I am wrong), so the edges do rise kind of steeply from the ocean...population is probably in the low 1,000+.
That's true, the island (from the pictures I've seen), does rise very steeply out of the ocean, so it's probably difficult to even create a beach there. Also, as you probalby know Saba is not considered a resort/beach getaway like St. Martin, so this could be another reason there are no beaches.

Aye.. That low population, I love it!
I've been reading so much about the island. Like how the population is so low, how there is relativly low tourism there, and how it is really unspoiled. I love that.
I have an interview Monday with a doctor that graduated from there, so me and my buddy that are looking at going to go and ask her a thousand questions about the school and the island.
Saba, it seems like such a paradise. I've been reading that tourism site, about the hotels, houses, activities and night life (or lack there of!) on the island. The $1 beers. Wow. I've looked at the real estate for sale, and I'd love one of thse small *** houses.
Does anyone know of doctors that have graduated from Saba and returned to the island?

Yup! It's a dormant (extinct) volcano that rises right out of the ocean like a mountain. Somebody told me recently that a little sand has washed up at Wells Bay (I think it does that every year). Most folks swim down by the rocks at Cove Bay or even down at the dock at Fort Bay. There's a nice little sun deck down there and a refereshment stand right next to it (Pop's Place), so it is a viable recreational alternative. There are also a number of pools on the isalnd, so you shouldn't have any problem going for a swim now and then.
If you just have to have sand, save your pennies and go to St. Maarten at mid semester. I think they have more beach there than they do roads.
Best of Luck!

eddie, a local taxi driver, told us the other day that their are plans for a beach finishing in a year. they are going to import tons of sand and put it in this place that used to be a beach but was ruined by the last big hurricane. the same thing happened to many of the beaches on st. maarten with the last hurricane, but they just responded quicker and got new sand right away. with that said, i wouldn't hold your breath about that beach being completed in a year.
