Ok, a little confused here. At Ross, you pass the USMLE1 and 2 and then match for an internship? Could someone break this down for me? My understanding was after 2 years you did your clinical rotations at a hospital you MATCHED with....thanks

nope

16months on the Rock
5th semester (Dominca or Miami) then you take the STep1.

After you take STEP 1 you can start a "Special Rotation" only at Larkin Hospital in Miami
it is the Family Medicine Core. You can do that while you WAIT for your STEP Score..

After passing STEP 1 you continue to do Clinicals.. You start with the cores..
Internal Med 12 wks / Surgery 12 wks / Peds 6 wks /etc.... you take STEP 2 CK after 36 wks of cores (not super sure about how many weeks) then you take STEP 2 CS and that should take you into your 4th year. when you do electives.. by this time you should be thinking about what you want to do and apply for the Match.... you match with a place you want to GO to do your residency (specialty ER, Internal whatever..) hope this helps.

You've confused some terminology there I think. Clinical rotations are what you begin after passing Step 1. The core rotations consist of Internal Medicine,Surgery,Ob/Gyn,Peds,Psych as well as electives in which you will choose those to your liking,,radiology, emergency medicine, etc. During rotation time you will at some point take Step 2.
After you have passed Step 2 you will submit your ERAS documents for the Match and begin getting interviews. When you make your match list and this is computerized with the official Match List, you will eventually 'Match' at some hospital and then begin whatever RESIDENCY you applied for. That's it in a nutshell.

Medical school is 4 years, first 2 years are basic sciences which is classroom based, the second 2 years are hospital based. There is no "matching" for those two years. They are done in 2 to 12 week rotations in different areas; ie surgery, internal med, peds, obgyn, etc. You apply for residency during 4th year of med school. To move from first 2 years to 2nd, you must pass step 1. To graduate the 4 years you must pass step 1,step 2cs/ck. Internship is like the 1st year of your residency after your 4 years of medical school.

Starting soon you can do 5th semester in Michigan or Miami. Also you can do electives during your 3rd year, you dont have to wait until your 4th year. I would recomend at least doing an elective in your desired residency early so you can have a strong letter of rec.

When it comes to Ross, nothing is true until it starts, so no Michigan until people are physically there.

futuremdsomewhere is right... do electives in the places you would like to Match.. so they get to know you...

your STEP 1 is very important but IT'S NOT THE ONLY THING they look at. They want to see your CLINICAL GRADES and STEP2. they will not care if you had a 4.0 in basic sciences but suddenly get B's and C's in clinicals. After all they want to see that you work hard and are a team player... Every little thing counts. Some places in the States don't even have grades. they go by pass/fail.. so STEP scores are the ultimate equalizer..

Well they have already started taking people to start either this month or next in the core clerkships at the hospital. I am sure it takes time to setup the infrastructure needed to have something like miami at a new hospital.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it in the above posts but along with your gpa nd step scores. It is nice to have a good Deans letter but more important are the three lor's you send in to ERAS from your clinical rotations, especially if you have one or two in the specialty you are interested in pursuing your residency.
