I'm living off-campus this semester and was wondering if anyone with recent experience could give me a rough estimate of the water+electricity bill per month. I know it will fluctuate depending on how needy you are of AC and whether or not you turn yourself into a prune in the shower everyday, but how much for average use?

Also, is the internet that is provided by many of the apartment complexes off-campus pretty slow or is it comparable to that with campus housing? I'm basically wondering if a skype conversation is going to be possible.

Thanks!

I haven't gotten my electric bill yet, and I'm not looking forward to it, since I use my A/C. Water's included though, which is nice, and pretty standard.

On the question I can answer, my internet was already established (older apartments) when I moved off campus, but so far, with a couple outages (not for too long), it's a lot faster than campus, particularly this term. I can now do full Skype conversation (with video) and get less lag and less holdup/disconnect during the busy hours (around 5-7) than I could before.

Hey, I have been living off campus for quite a while now. I was in a one bedroom place before and that ranged around I would say 500EC per month for electric. I believe water was like so cheap that it was included in the rent. Now I am in a 2 bedroom place and we use the AC a bit more now since we are home alot. It ranges usually around 700EC and if we go crazy with the AC it can even go up to 900EC but its never over that. It is usually around 700 EC per month though. I know some people who say their bill is 200 EC per month but I assume they aren't home as much, live in a smaller place where it gets cooler faster, and don't use the AC as much.

I recently got internet installed at my place. I pay $149EC per month and the speed is actually pretty good. I usually don't have to wait for videos on youtube to load. I know some people that have internet that is already provided by where they are staying and it is pretty good. So I believe you wouldn't have a problem with skype and all. I use Skype and have used it many places here, I seem to have no issue with it. Hope this helps.

I couldn't imagine it being worse than the internet speed in SD1. It is God awful at times, especially with Yahoo email. I could bake a cake in the time it takes to save a picture.

We spend an average of 700-800 EC a month on electricity in our 2 bd apt but the A/C in one of the bedrooms is always on. Internet is pretty fast and Skype quality is really good. We haven't had any problems. Water runs around 20-30 EC a month. Hope that helps.

My roommate and I spend around $300-400 EC on utilities total, but we don't use our A/C very much (about 3-4 hours/day in each bedroom at a max). My desktop computer is ran through a large transformer and is on all the time. Your body will adjust to the heat if you allow it to. Also, we have fans and leave our windows open to get a good breeze.
