Hey everybody,

Just have a question about the study time for step 1 between Ross and SGU. If the students at SGU stay more time on the island, does that mean they have less time to study for Step 1? or do the students at Ross have more time to study for step 1 since they come back to the states sooner? I know everyone has a chance to study for the test and take the test. I'm not sure if there is actually a difference in the study time between the schools. thank you for letting me know. take care:D

I don't think there is much of a difference in study time.

I am a Ross student, and when I took my exam over two years ago (geez) you will do the paperwork to schedule your exam "window" for step 1 upon arrival in Miami for your 5th semester.

The window is 3 months long, in which you can take your exam at any time.

Three months is actually over the top in the amount of time you need to study for this thing. If you have been studying hard throughout your first 2 years... it should be very doable.

Take care.

"study time" shouldnt be a criteria for choosing a school. if the difference between two schools is enough to give you pause, the bigger question should be how to remedy tes taking strategy.

Stephew,

I was asking about the "study time" as a matter to see what the differences are between the schools ( if there were any with regards to time for STEP 1). it was a question based on wanting to know more about the schools and STEP 1. It was not asked in order to be a judging criteria for choosing a school or to indicate any pause. I appreciate your opinnion and actually agree with you that study time is not any criteria for choosing a school, but keeping youself informed about the schools (especially as a prospective student) is important. thank you. take care. best regards.

i agrea with the notion of being informed. however as part of that service i think realizing that the study time to the usmle is a (very) poor factor to qualify them. good luck with you choice.

at sgu, it depends on the term you enter.
If you come in January, you end 2nd year in Dec and don't start clinicals until May-June- so ~5 months off- though i can't imagining anyone studying for that long...
If you enter in August, then you end 2nd year in MAy and start clinicals in Sept- so only 3 months break- but again enough time to study (you just can't take a vacation too!!).

Thank you for the heads up rokshaha. I wasn't exactly sure how it worked for SGU students.
