Hey guys,

I just got in SABA for Jan. since they said I was not competitive enough for Sept. Is starting in January bad, will it delay me much? I would prefer to go during Sept and am awaiting SMU and their decision... Any input would be awesome

It's usually not bad to be admitted to medical school, but I understand your concerns about timing. First off, if you've been accepted it means they think you can finish the program. I haven't noticed things being any harder or easier for different semesters.

As far as timing goes, you can still make the Match with the September folks if you bust your hump and work fast.

Congrats on your acceptance!

I am elated about getting in, I have a feeling though this semester would put me back a year, am I correct?

"I've been admitted to medical school. Is this good?"

CONGRATULATIONS! Of course it's good. You should be celebrating. The September class has more applicants and therefore the school is more selective due to having more candidates to choose from. You didn't make the cut for september. So what. You DID make it for the January class. Both classes are the same, apparently the January and May classes do really well due to the fact that they have a higher proportion of "mature" students.

Sorry for the ribbing, enjoy the fact that Saba has extended an offer and take it. Saba is a great school, you are lucky!

Best of Luck!

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I completely understand. I start med school in May and even that seems too far in the future. I would start tomorrow if I could.

Some people drop out before classes start. You should keep in touch with Gardner and see if you could somehow slip into the September class.

Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck!

Hi charlottenian,

I know that Jan. '05 seems far away right now but there are so many things you will find that need to get done before then. On the positive side, you could use this time to maybe earn a little money for medical school, since you are definitely going to need A LOT of that.
Anyways good luck and congrats.

If you're not satisfied with Jan '05 and you want to start earlier, you can always ask admissions to put you on a waiting list for any available spots for Sept '04. Not everyone who got accepted will go, so you can make a forum here asking anyone who got accepted for Sept but won't be attending to let you know. Someone is doing this already, if you browse our forums, except this person's trying to switch into May '04

It is still possible to make the Match with the September class if you shoot through rotations and don't take too much time off to study for Step I and II. It's a little tighter schedule but you can do it if you want to.

Best of Luck!

Well I got into SMU for Sept and am kinda leaning that route since NY and CA are not important to me.... Both schools seemed awesome and I am writing Saba a letter thanking them for giving me an opportunity but to not hold my spot.... Good luck to you all
