My experience at CAHSU
by Medical_Student Medical_Student (Login Medical_Student)
Hello everyone:

I have noticed someone is bashing at CAHSU. I am a student at CAHSU and I started back in May 2000 and now I'm in my third trimester. when I first came here I knew what to expect, I wasn't expecting Harvard or anything like that so it was easy for me to adjust to. Same goes for any Caribbean medical school if you are planning to go to. You can't be too picky as long as they provide you with a proper education that would prepare and direct you towards successful completion of USMLE's and a career as a physician in the US or anywhereelse in the world. The professor at CAHSU are professionals and are not graduates from St. Matthews as it was noted in the original text. There are a lot of rumors out there about many caribbean scool but you should not believe everything you read-use your common sense and approach with cautious. CAHSU was not the only school that I applied to, I also applied to Ross, St.George and AUC and I was accepted at Ross and AUC besides CAHSU. I chose CAHSU for the following reasons:

1)I knew a friend who was already studying at CAHSU and he was very satisfied with the level of education he was receiving there.

2)I did my own research about CAHSU by calling them directly and found them very professional and determined to succeed.

3) Smaller classes than those in AUC, St. George and Ross, etc..., therefore profs are always available to help those who need them unlike some of the bigger Caribbean schools.

4) CAHSU is recognised by World Health Organisation.

5) Have affiliating hospitals in the US and Mexico and Britain.

6) Lower fees compared to other Caribbean schools.

7)It is in land and not on an island.

8)And finally the last reason I chose CAHSU is that I am determine to succeed whereever I go to school to, Ross or AUC, It really depends on myself and the time I put into school.

I believe have have made the right decision to attend CAHSU and I wouldn't change it for any other Caribbean school. I am happy here and truely believe that I can succeed at what I believe is the best career in the world and that is becoming a physician.
For those who are planning to start a career in medicine I suggest you research the school you choose to go to and don't believe what you read on the web unless you are absolutely sure. Use your common sense. GOOG LUCK

I dont know a thing personally about cashew (they are tasty though) but some points.

2)I did my own research about CAHSU by calling them directly and found them very professional and determined to succeed.
-ok

3) Smaller classes than those in AUC, St. George and Ross, etc..., therefore profs are always available to help those who need them unlike some of the bigger Caribbean schools.
-sgu profs actually are very helpful. The sizes is much larger however. Dont be fooled most of these schools would grow exponentially if they could. However teacher to student ratio is a good question though down on the hierarchy of things I would list.

4) CAHSU is recognised by World Health Organisation.
-what school isnt  (or which school; or who etc)

5) Have affiliating hospitals in the US and Mexico and Britain.
- the Uk is a great place to study. But its an option. Being able to do all your core in the US as an option is important. Also they all must be ACGME approved.

6) Lower fees compared to other Caribbean schools.
-ok. Though there are some fairly inexpensive caribbean schools
7)It is in land and not on an island.
-um. well I wish I went to med school in manhattan which is an island? What's your point?

As always, know your issues!
1)board scores?
2) percent who MAKE it to the boards
3)can you get LICENSED in all 50 states (or the ones you want to likely practice in?)
4) can you get the residency you want?
then the rest comes in.
