Is it fair to say, that most of the Caribbean med schools give a fairly descent education? it seems that students at SGU, AUA, SMU, MUA are happy with there education. Ross U students always complain about clinicals however the classes seem to be almost on par with US schools. Thoughts??

My father, a gastroenterologist, has a collegue who graduated from SGU (many years ago). He says that doctor is one of the best gastroenterologists around. (I don't know if this has anything to do with SGU education, or subsequent residency and practice.) I have also heard of some SGU grads teaching at some excellent US medical schools. So I know it's possible to be really successful. But I don't know if these are select cases, of if this can be generalized to the majority of Caribbean grads. Also this is not generalizable because this only applies to SGU and not the other Caribbean schools-- as I don't know about the others. I know this doesn't answer your question to a great extent, but since I'm the first to reply, I thought I should post this. I guess I am simply trying to say that if someone doesn't have any choice but to go to the Caribbean, but is truly committed to medicine, he or she can still be a great doctor.

well, since were talking about SGU here. i heard that this years SGU match list was better than all the American Big names including Yale, Harvard, MIT and Stanford?? so i dont think we should compare SGU or even call it a caribbean school cause it surely exceeds all??
anyone have anything to say about the fate of any of the new schools opening up everyday NOW in the caribbean??
