Hey Guys,

So I got admitted to the Technion program, but I have some concerns about attending a non-US MD program. Not that I expect anyone here to be speaking from a certain level of expertise, but does anyone here know how attending a non-American MD program, such as Technion, is viewed in comparison to "lower-end"/"middle-of-the-road" American MD programs? Do you think it's viewed as equivalent to the Caribbean programs? Does anyone know into what quality of residency programs Technion grads place into? From their website, it seems that emphasize a few examples of recent graduates going onto well-regarded residency programs (e.g., Emory, Vanderbilt, Yale, etc), but, realistically speaking, ido you think such examples are more the exception or the norm?

Thanks!

In general comparing carib schools to the ISraeli schools - it kind of goes by area- in the New-York area and in California Sackler is well known. I don't know much about Technion but I think that b/c it is a relatively new program they still have less alumni residency programs to "show off" but I imagine that it is a good school and that with time they will be getting excellent residencies, also consider the fact that fewer students go to Technion so I think that percentage wise they are better off then what appears on the site. Remember that residencies aren't obtained by virtue of medical school only- the applicant also has to be a good one, that goes a long long way.
Now having said that- before evaluating the school which you will be going to I think you should ask yourself- "What were my options?" If you are debating b/w Technion and Harvard- yeah, be concerned- you'll get better jobs from Harvard but if it's b/w Technion and no school then think about how you maximize your medical school experience.
Nobody will be able to tell you which schools are better (carib vs. Israel) b/c no study was done. I went to an Israeli school and am very happy.
