Mystery Surrounds C.M.U.! (http://djsiva.blogspot.com/2007/08/mystery-surrounds-cmu.html)
Like for real!
Each week the drama is building up here in Willemstad! It’s just pretty crazy, but generally a really interesting and unique experience.
There are all sorts of rumors flying around the med school here regarding the incoming class in September. Basically, the rumor is that essentially there is no incoming class…lol!
Also, last week the local government in Curacao eliminated a monopoly that shut out any new medical schools on the island, so supposedly that was an important move. There was an article in the local newspaper, Extra, about it last week.
In some ways, going to the med school here is like being a guerilla med student. This is because there is like no real school here with few real resources. Almost every claim on the web site is patently false, including all of the information regarding accreditations and rotations. At least this is according to the Student Government Association (SGA) meeting this morning!
Fortunately though, the school basically has no direction to go but up…unless you count bankruptcy as an option (which could still be helpful to the general public)!
Anyways, it should be interesting to see what happens here! Holla!

I don't have a problem with a school trying to start up. That's great they were bitten by the entrepreneurial bug to make money.
I do have a problem with a school claiming to have IMED listings when they clearly don't with their charter just being signed 1 day ago. Who knows what other shady dealings they are trying to pull on students and preying on the ignorance of naive students as they screw with their future licensure.

I personally think that was a nice gesture from them to the students.
my question is can they take the basketball net back to their home? or is just to be use in the apartment?
I have never seen another institution giving free basketball nets so it is ground breaking.

the quote by R.L. on the you tube video shows major shadiness.
"we are just waiting for the documents from the local govt.... maybe"
MAYBE?????? it sounds like from the interview that they really dont have a clue as to what is actually happening with their own school.
all while collecting tuition from students. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.

Well, it's a business. No one ever from the school remarked on the quality.

so this is the most recent post on DJ $iva's blog- THIS is what the school is telling its students?????
Today (according to the word on the skreet) we found out that the Accreditation for the skool has been approved retroactively to March 2007, the date when the skool got its foundation registered! It appears that the main delay was basically a court decision to strike down a medical school monopoly on this island, and from what I've heard, it took a lot of effort to finally get the local government to act. So its pretty cool because now CMU is like a new school that has already overcome a few big start-up challenges and can probably now really move forward in its mission as a medical school! So everyone is pretty excited over here! Anyways, we got word that the incoming class is like 40-60 students or something like that and that most of the students were just waiting for the accreditation of the school in order to make their decision. Basically, it seems that there is a lot of instability in the Caribbean Medical Schools outside of the "big 4", so a lot of students are just waiting for one of the remaining 28 or so schools to stabilize in order to have at least one pretty decent school outside of the big 4. Oh yeah, the air-conditioning works very well at the school, which apparently is like a big deal on other islands! So, hopefully on Monday we'll get the official document about the Accreditation, and then this whole initial drama at CMU can be chalked off as an unfilmed reality show episode that was actually well worth the money spent. Holla!
for those of you who want to delve deeper into the mind of DJ $iva (though why.....)

and evidently its AC availabliity that makes for a stable off shore school...not something silly like proper credentials....

So people can't pick something like SMU, AUA, or a handful of other schools that have stable track records and all their records already in order that they have to pick a school that was struggling to get it's BASIC paperwork in order let alone anything else?

What?? men a university that gives free basketball nets have the potential to be the BEST university ever, unless they mislead and copyright some stuff here and there, but they will never do that so they are number 1 in my book of ____________
10 years from now we will read this forum and they might still be around.

Excerpt from “Another Potentially “Big” Week”, dated 14 August:
“So this week here in Willemstad is set to be another week of twists and turns! The President of our school is coming into town tomorrow and is set to meet with the students to tell us all the news about the accreditation and plans for the Fall semester!… Also, I just took a look at the letter about the charter on our school's website. Some of the specifics mentioned on there are that CMU expects to invest $3 million dollars over the next 2 years and have an average of 300 students…The latest figure for the incoming class that I have heard is like 33 new students or something… "
Did I read that right?? He says he just looked at the letter about the charter, and didn’t even notice there is no letter about the charter!
Wow.
If this is an accurate reflection of how CMU's student body thinks, then God help them.

I like this quote the best short-sleeve CMU White Coats!
Personally, I was disappointed by their appearance. I dunno about how other schools are run, but if you're going to visit under person's facility in white coats, but we're absolutely required to dress in a professional manner. No baseball caps, street clothes, colorful bracelets, etc. Shirt, tie, slacks and appropriate shoes.
