Dr. Omniscient, Dr. Multitasking or Dr. Incredible. Treatment of severe burns requires many different skills: exquisite pain management by anaesthesiologists; reconstructive/plastic surgery; infectious disease control (pt.'s are often subject to opportunistic infection); immunologists; general trauma management (e.g. temperature control can go haywire); and some of the most skilled and dedicated nurses in the business.
For this reason burn victims are often treated in specialist burns units rather than within normal trauma departments.

SOE do you know why that is? Is it simple money-saving, or something else like availability of staff?
