hi guys
i got into both saba university and american univesity of antigua. saba is appealing bcz its cheaper, but reading their forum, i saw a lot of complaints about clinicals
i know its too early now to think about this, but do aua students face the same problem when it come to clinicals? do u have to move a lot in order to finish on time for the match?
thnx a lot

I don't think you should take cost into account, when there are other major differences. As an AUA clinical student, I've been able to schedule back-to-back Greenbook core rotations. I don't know about Saba but when I read the Ross forum and see how some of their students have to go back to Dominica for clinicals because they lack clinical sites - and that's pretty scary. While the students of some of these schools have to wait months to get a Peds rotation, all I had to do was pick up the phone and got mine set up with just a 2 week wait time.

Saba gives you the ability to practice in all 50 states though, because they are California approved. That's why most people choose Saba over non-Cali approved schools. Saba also has a high match rate in Canada, if you're from there. And the tuition and class sizes are low.

Thanks a lot
no im not from canada, i am from NY, and im not worried at all about cali, ill probably stay in NY
and you are right, the cost shouldnt matter
so it seems like aua students dont face the same problem with rotations

did u have to relocate a lot to get back to back all green rotations?
thats nice they are all green, congrats man
and thanks for your time

Well I relocated because I wanted to do surgery and radiology at a particular hospital, but most of my friends are doing all Green rotations in NY. Once I'm done with those, I'm going to complete my remaining cores in NY.

Sree
do you think one preapres students academically better than the other

in terms of prep for step 1

or does it come down to the student at the end?

thnx

bcz saba's 5th semester includes a kaplan review course to prep

when i read about antigua, it seemed like people take time off to take a kaplan review and study
which will put them a yr behind the match making the program 5 yrs
is that right or?

I mean no disrespect to AUA, but go to SABA. Their grads are able to be licensed in all 50 states, AUA students are not able to get licensed in all 50 states. SABA has a far superior reputation. They have been around a lot longer. I am a clinical student at AUC, I have rotated with students from both schools. The ones from SABA tend to be more proffesional and knowledgeable. A lot of the students at AUA are people who failed out of other schools. I know this personally, friends of mine who failed out of AUC went there. Students who were dismissed from AUC for cheating were accepted there. AUA is a school that has shown a lot of improvement recently, but they are nowhere close to SABA.

I wish we had better 5th semester instruction as well, but even with taking a semester off, my entire time with AUA will be 3 years 8 months.

and u will still be able to get the match on time or will u have to wait an extra year for next yrs match?

Even if you aren't interested in CA, Saba is still a better choice. I think it is always better to go to a school that has no restrictions on where you can practice. Let's say someone does some research on you med school, because they are looking to hire you. They find out that you can't practice in CA, NM, and a few other states. It may raise some red flags. Caribbean grads have enough to worry about as it is. Nothing against AUA, I think they have a good program. G

the reason im concerned about saba is their clinicals
i dont want to relocate many times in order to finish on time
i would rather have the privilage of just calling to scheduel a rotation

i am in a delima now

Sree,I read on another thread that you are doing research for 11 months as you can't go through match for a year, that makes it 4 years and 10 months....

No disrespect to AUA. AUA is one of the fastest growing school but there is no question of comparison with saba in no way at all.You don't need an expert to tell you that Saba is your best choice.
Why do we always say money should'nt be considered that is why this because increase tuition when they fill like it.Saba is cheaper, smaller class size which is very important, AUA has a very large size because they are accepting alot of transfer and as a new school looking for too much money .At the end of the day you will put in most of the effort but I will pick saba over AUA in a heart beat and any reasonable person will too

What you are saying is that apart from sgu, auc, ross and saba the rest schools are useless? thats really nice. What employer after residency ask whether your school is cali approved ?You are an MD so you are telling me that if u r hiring somebody that graduates from MUA with perfect board scores finished residency as top resident you will investigate and find out MUA is not CALI APPROVED and won't give a job?
