Hi I was wondering about Premed colleges. I'm Only going into my freshman in highschool but I want to start looking now so I can start planning. I dont know a whole lot so please excuse my ignorance. Are there specific Schools Just for premed or can you just go to any four year college and Major in biology? I'm having a hard time actually finding and "specific" Premed schools as it ussually turns out to me finding something that I have no Idea about!! Also if someone could post a few premed colleges That I could take a look at and get a feel for what I should be looking for that would be fantastic!

Any four year school, you don't need to major in the sciences. In fact, odds are you'll get a better GPA if you don't. It's important that you maintain a high GPA in highschool to get into a good university, and maintain a high GPA there.

Another thought to consider is that several schools offer a **/MD degree program in the US. The selection process is very rigorous and to meet their standards you have to start when you are a freshmen. I believe it has a minimum requiement of 4 years science(including Chem, Physics, and Bio), 4 years math(Alg, Alg2, geo, precalc), 4 years english, either 2,3, or 4 foreign langauge, various social science classes, high GPA, and a wicked ACT/SAT score. The program usually consists of 3 years undergrad with extremely hard an stacked semesters of 20+ credit hours of science and math, then once you complete that and manage a minimum gpa and minimum mcat, you get a guarnteed spot in med school.

BUT if you wanted to do it the traditional way....there is NO degree called PREMED. Premed consists of the premed science classes that are required to get into medical school. Chem1+2, organic chem1+2, Bio1+2, Physics 1+2. Some med schools vary after that ranging from calc, english, or genetics requirements. Like said before generally itis bettr t major in something like psychology or english and take the premed science classes on theside or as your electives. Then your GPA is usually higher and our writing ability /critical thinking is pretty good from your non science degree choice.

As foryour original question...posting a premed college. Go to any 4 year college website and just look to see if they offer those premed classes i just listed. If they do and offer a bachelors degree in anything...then you have yourself a premed college.

Hope this isn't too confusing and is actually a little helpfull.
