im currently studying biology at a university. i really want to go to medical school in Europe. i have done some research and found that they require A-level grades. what is the equivalent to that in American schools? also what else would be good knowledge to gain for getting accepted into a European medical school?

hey there jeremybeam, I recently wrote the Charles Univ. entrance and tomy surprise, got through....well the equivalent of A-level grades would technically be a A in every subject...but you shouldn't compare it that way...generally you need to have passed all the required sciences (ie. at college level or the IB/AP level). If you have all the knowledge required (ie. phys, chem, bio), then you should be fine. But this is only for Charles Univ. I thought the exam wasn't that bad (if only i had prepared more seriously, but i finally got through!!!) but certainly don't underestimate it. In my case i did the IB program (along with several AP subjects), which is why is wasn't so bad for me.

I've heard that the Hungarian schools waiver your entrance exam if you have a good MCAT score or if you have a very good score in the IB program.

The Polish schools are also similar to the Hungarian ones (usually no entrance exam but if they have one, then they waiver it based on the conditions).

I've also heard that the Slovakian med schools (Comenius Medical School, Bratislava) , also have entrance exams.

I will tell you one fact which is really imp. to remember: the med school entrance exams in Europe are generally easy. The trick is not to get in but rather to stay through all the 6 yrs.---coz its not going to be hard (in case your wondering how i know so much, i just read almost all posts where most of the ppl said the same thing)...

I would kindly request the moderator to delete the previous post as this is certainly not the place for discussing that stuff!!!

I am studying in pleven medical university, Bulgaria.Well here in Bulgaria, it is required to have 60% marks in basic science, meaning Biology, chem and phisics in 12th standard(high school diploma, US standard). Thats the passaing grade in USA.As u r attending college, I am sure that u have it. Here it is not important that u got your addmission, but to clear all your exams on time. Quality of education in pleven is good so I believe it should be the same for others. City life is like other EU countries. But be carefull about contractors, they charge huge amount of money for nothing. Schools in Bulgaria are usually verry helpful. You should get all the help from them and its free.
