How many students will be attending basic sciences in Fall 2007?

Call the school on Monday and find out.

Why would I spend money and call when I can find out here from the school admin?

Why would 1800 or 1888 cost you any money when you can actually hear it from a staff with his/her name given so you know it is accurate information?

I do care. For a school catering to students wanting to get into the US to practice, the USMLE is an important marker for offshore schools, so you should care too.

Haha yeah I do care as well. But I thought the school is brand new so it won't have any Step takers for another 2 years (after basic sciences)? Am I wrong on that assumption? Or are you asking about potential transfer students who are ready right now?

i believe there are some med3 transfers...in the fall they will be med4. thus there should be some taking the step 1 in the spring/summer of 08.

I know they have transfer students, plus the issue of their WHO/IMED certification has still not been clarified.

CMU | Caribbean Medical University - About CMU (http://www.cmumed.org/about/index.htm)

They say they have WHO, IMED, ECFMG, and USLME recognition there (last bullet in the left column).

Why would they state that when they do not have certification as of yet?

It's like calling myself an MD before going to medical school... lol.

As of this afternoon, CMU is not listed in IMED (IMED - FAIMER International Medical Education Directory - Search IMED (http://imed.ecfmg.org/search.asp)). I just did a search and the only schools listed for Netherlands-Antilles are: AUC, Saba, St. James, St. Martinus, St. Eustatius and Xavier.

As for why they'd state they already have certification, maybe it's a marketing ploy?

Posting that you have recognition from an organization when you don't, does seem a bit dishonest, even IF you're in the process of obtaining it.

So when exactly does CMU plan to get listed in the IMED? No one seems to know the answer. I'll be attending their open house this Friday.

Why waste your time/money? If they can't even provide a decent answer on IMED without blatant lies, how could you trust anything else from them?

Hey, this Friday, the 10th of August is when the school CEO, rlewkowski, said the listing would be on IMED. Ask to see the IMED paperwork and the charter paperwork. Get a photocopy if you could.

Please report back to us, the unfortunate ones who cant be there, and let us know how it goes.

Thanks.

You never answered my question about your website though and advertising that you DO currently possess these documents. While some might argue the Charter is more important, right now I'm somewhat miffed by your advertisement that you are in possession of several recognitions you do not currently have and your careful aversion to this simple question.

ha, SOE and i...along with others have both asked this question numerous times. i'm going to assume they will continue to dodge this until they finally do legitimately have it. then this question will never have to be addressed.

The answer to the IMED question is that you still don't have it. Promise whatever you want, right now, you don't have it. And since your web site says you do, I'm not quick to believe anything that spews from your school.

I did my research and called the Government of Curacao at 011 5999 433 3131. They confirmed that the CMU is recognized by them and the charter will be issued within few days.

Anyone who doesn’t believe please do the same and call!!!

I noticed there are dozens of cheerleaders or agents of other schools trying to bash CMU on the forum but I did my homework and confirmed they are legit.

It’s a new school, I agree but it has a huge potential and amazing start, no matter what those aggressive posters say.

To all those cheerleaders or agents. Please name any other school that at the beginning:
1. had so many rotations, I called the hospital and confirmed
2. had dormitories for its students
3. had excellent campus and infrastructure
4. cared about what its students say or suggest
5. improved the quality of education in such a short time

So if CMU currently then has no charter or WHO/IMED recognition, where does that legally leave the current students in this semester?

Could you also tell us which hospital you contacted regarding clinical rotations? None us have been able to ascertain which hospitals are affiliated with CMU outside of their claims of many "preceptors."

I agree. I really want to listen to what the CMU official is trying to say. I guess time will give all the answers. I'm really looking forward to CMU's open house this Friday.

You said that "the charter will be issued within few days" meaning that CMU does not currently have a charter. We also know they currenty do not possess WHO/IMED recognition. So legally, in terms of licensure, certification, coursework, etc, where does that leave the students who are currently enrolled and taking courses at CMU this semester?

ok this is HUGE !! WILL be issued?? WILL BE!!!???!!!! That is terrible for those students that are currently taking classes at cmu- they are NOT at legit school- maybe when that charter is issued- THEN they are- they is totally the same as the st chris charter issue!!! And people where pulled out of residencies because they started class at a school whose dates on their charter did not match!- This is not conjecture- it is a precendent!

I noticed there are dozens of cheerleaders or agents of other schools trying to bash CMU on the forum but I did my homework and confirmed they are legit.

i think, for the most part, are here because they are genuinely concerned about the students that fall for the slick advertising and also on how it reflects on the rest of the caribbean schools.

you know (or maybe you don't), but it is more important to have

1. one good hospital that has all ACGME level rotations for all the cores for all the students that they have. Increasing the number of available rotations comes with the growth of the school. Having a guaranteed rotation spots for each and every student that s greenbook, even if its only 3 spots for said 3 students, is far more valuable than 300+ spots at dubious places.

2. so long as good, clean, safe, housing is available in close proximity to the school, the moneies are best spent acquiring the supplies (cadavers, microscopes, standardized pts, etc) that will help blster the basic sciences and ultimately step I scores.

3. same as 2- a rented campus (which btw is what CMU has) is better since initial layout should be for helping the students through the basic sciences- (hire the best profs money can get)- not just having some fancy schmansy place to have classes.

4. students are like children- they need boundaries and discipline- i shouldn't know more than the adminstrators of my school how best to plot and plan my medical education- if they have done THEIR job- then i shouldn't feel the need to make basic suggestions on how to improve things- if the biggest thing i have to complain about are the flying coachroaches, then my school is doing a pretty good job.

5. and this is demonstrated how at cmu? DO they have improved step scores to prove this? impressive residency placement? WHAT?

what cmu HAS shown is

1. they are very good at wholesale plagarism
2. they have an offical that dances around legit questions, yet is quite capable of cheerleading himself
3. they outright LIE on their website and feel no need to correct the "mistakes" when pointed out to them.

That's what I can't understand about CMU students, present and prospective.
Even if you accept that the Charter and IMED will be ok, even if you use the old argument that all schools have to start from the bottom with a few shortcomings and work their way up, aren't you disturbed by their lies?
With so many Caribbean schools with at least some track record to choose from (not just the big 4) why would anyone place their faith in a school that deceives from the very beginning?
