I知 planning to start medical school after completing 90 credit hours. Actually, I値l have about 100 credit hours by spring 2008. I知 planning to take MCAT in summer 2008. My plan is to start in Caribbean medical school in fall 2008. Currently my overall GPA is about 3 & I知 hoping to improve it to about 3.25 to 3.5 range. I知 hoping my MACT score will be around 30.
I was wondering, what are my chances of getting into SMU for fall 2008 without undergraduate degree?

When is the good time to apply? I'm thinking of applying some time in June 2008 as I'll not have at least 90 credit hours until then.

Do you know anybody getting into SMU without undergraduate degree?

How many does SMU admits without undergraduate degree?

I appreciate your response. Thanks.

Prolly none because most have **'s. Would make you unlikely to be competitive.

Call up admissions , they can probably answer most of your questions. Also, you may want to consider finishing your **. degree just so that at least you have something to go back on, in case you have to wait. And as for waiting til June 2008 to apply, you may want to apply earlier just to make sure there's enough time for everything. The earlier the better, classes get pretty full from what I understand that close to starting semester.

You will not be competitive at all when you apply in Summer of 2008 for the Sept 2008.

Because by the time you taken MCAT during that summer, the admission will be full unless you are highly competivie with high MCAT, GPA, and BA/** degree

your application wont be complete soon enough before all the spots will more than likely be full.

95% of the applicants will have a undergrad degree.

It is unlikely that you'll get in.

Basically everything they just said.

Why not just finish your bachelors and apply after that like most people do? And you say you could bring your cumulative might be a 3.5 at the time of application and you get a 30 on the MCAT?! Dude you'll be right there for most U.S. MD schools and basically all D.O. schools. Don't sell yourself short. But then after you try applying them of course you'll get into a caribbean school.

Hey What Are My Chances,

Sorry, we are all just trying to be very honest with you unlike other people who would say just apply and find out...

However, there are other caribberans you can consider about too... like AUA and Sint Eustatius...
If you put your application down right NOW for Sept 2008, I am 90% sure you can get in even w/o a MCAT or degree.... Wouldn't that be a nice back up plan to have?

I really appreciate all of your responses.

I'm 100% certain that I want to do medicine. So, my thinking is why not save a year or two by doing MD in Caribbean? Recently I attended a info session & they said about 40K apply to MD program in US & only about 17K get in. So, no matter how good my GPA, MCAT, etc. is, I think my chances are 50/50, taking other intangibles factors into consideration, getting into US medical school. Why wait & take chance, & loose 3 years, instead go to Caribbean Med school. If I get in, I know I'll do good. I hope, if i can get an interview, I can convince them that I'm committed and will do good.

I'll apply in spring 2008 though I'll be a course or two short to 90 credit hours. I'll go all out & try.

I'm shadowing a doctor now, have enough volunteer hours in hospitals, ...I certainly want to get into any Big 4 med schools only.

Any more tips & encouragements will be helpful. Thanks.

........ Any more tips & encouragements will be helpful. Thanks. You will save yourself a boat load of trouble going to a US school. I would ask you to continue to work hard you have good grades and get in a US school. If you take short cuts in medicine - they have a way of backfiring on you later. Do good a MCAT prep course and get tutors for courses that are difficult so you do well in them. You are doing fine to get into a US school. Get your undergrad degree - trust me the time spent will be good for you. Take plenty of English courses so you will do well on the verbal reasoning on the MCAT.

Hi Compassion MD:

Here is my summary:

After Fall 2007 semester: 85 credits complete with (about) GPA 3.3 cumulative average and above 3.0 pre-med and science courses average, I don't have any C's in science courses, most B's & couple of A's. I'll also have required English, humanities, & other related courses

After Spring 2008 semester: 100 credits complete with about same GPA's as above.

Summer 2008: Take MCAT, hope score is around 30. I'll have over 500 hours volunteer service in hospitals, will go thru shadowing with couple of doctors, I'm sure of excellent LOR, etc.

Admission guys at SABA, SMU, & Ross said I could apply in spring 2008 committing to complete 90 credits by Spring (May) 2008 and MCAT, if required. AUC said I need to apply after I get MCAT score. They all said, if not for fall 2008, I may get in for Jan 2009 semester, off course if I've what it takes. But they said they give preference for students with ** degree. They also said you never know. I think they gave a honest opinion. I'm hoping for the best. Let me know what you (& all others) think.

Thanks.

To be honest, buy the time you have everything readly including the MCAT, I do not think you will be competitive enough for the Fall of 08. However, if you have everthing right now, like MCAT, and **/BA degree, and apply for Fall of 08, I am pretty sure you can get in easily. Anyway, If you do apply during your next year summer, Fall of 08, I don't really think you could get in because they are gettting coptitive, maybe for Jan of 09 or more likely May of 09
