I'm attending University of California, I just finished my first year.
I admit that my first two quarters have been simply terrible. I've always had the thought of going to medical school, but it was inadequate for substantial amount of success in terms of getting good grades.
But that's all an excuse.
I realized my spring quarter that I need to step up and take this seriously. Socializing can get me only so far. Although I may think that I feel happy to be socially accepted, deep inside I was screaming because I knew this isn't it.

My grades have been:
Fall quarter : 2.2
Winter Quarter : 3.3
Spring quarter : 3.93
overall : 3.2
my science gpa I think is 3.0

It's really bad, I know.

I'm not the same person I was my Fall + Winter quarter. I'm willing to change and devote myself to do better and strive for my ultimate goal.

My question is what now? Do I even have a small chance of getting into Med School?

My EC has been CPR certified (studying EMT right now), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and plan to do clinical experience, shadow doctor, volunteer at hospice upcoming sophomore year.

I plan to stay one more year (5 year plan) to raise my GPA

How am I doing? Am I totally screwed?

first off don't let any advisor talk you into a 'science degree' like biology, chemstry7 etc because it is much more difficlut to get a high gpa...just do what you like for a major get a high gpa and do the pre reqs spread out but get A's on them.

for US schools (which is what you want, leave foreign schools dead last because you will fgind one that will accept you that isn't even an issue) what you want is to take school seriously from now on show the admin cmt an upward trend in your gpa (which you have done) and maintain it until graduation. then take time to study for the mcat, take a review course and get above 30 and you have a good shot at US MD/DO Schools

if you can't get in there you can look at a myriad of foreign schools but focus on the US school at all costs

you are realizing in your first year what you need to do..you have time

You know, User can not play nice!

mmmm yea, you'd better look into this one a bit. email pat park from the cali medical board and ask her about the univeristy. and for the record the medical school is NOT accredited in california they hold classes in a different set up than other schools which maybe a huge issue because you are basically attending an unaccredited medical school in US soil.

but their set up is different in that they hold classes on a military base supposedly and may have found a loophole so do email pat park. foreign schools have tried opening branches on indian reservations to try out loopholes and were very quickly closed down.

all of the above is just from discussions on this board, reserach it on here and read the whole thing. so because it is on here double check on all the info

good luck

I looks like you got the feel in the last quarter. Your next two years are the most important. Be sure to get A's in the pre-req's get tutors and do what you need to do to well.
