I am going in September as well, I am looking forward to meeting everyone there. I have already bought all the books and began to read them, hopefully we can form study groups.

When is everyone arriving? Classes start first week of September, but I imagine that most people will arrive by the end of August.

Has anyone found out the price of apartments for the term?

Thanks

My name is Chun-Ta. my flight ticket is on August 28th. where did you buy your books, ebay or amazon? Don't study too hard this summer.

Some people said that you should be able to find a place to live on the first day and someone who works for the school will come to the Airport to pick you up and show you these housings. I will call them tomorrow to ask about health insurance and bank things. Also, I will double check whether someone is coming to the airport to pick me up or not.

pop quiz: Which part of body is where Tibia is? Hint: it is one name of bones.

I really don't understand why people take their precious time to criticize people, schools etc for no unjust reasons. If a potential student has in his heart to make a difference in changing Spartan, should we not support the person in their dream, instead of bad-mouthing unnecessarily?

Yes, Spartan has faced problems in the past, and yes all must be done to have them shape or get out of the game, however, shouldn't we be doing something positively constructive to help the school's image? instead we are casting stores on them? We forget that this school sometime in the past have indeed produced some wonderful doctors.

After all, I know that the gentleman that made the negative comments must be someone also wanting to be a medical doctor or if he/she is not already one. This attitude is not something one should expect from a MD. I see a MD as a high calling with the highest dignified caliber. We must desist from condemning and name calling if we really think we are medical doctors.

After over 20 yrs practice in the USA,I can only tell you that when you are in the basic sciences in the carribean crowd and schools ,you will see and hear "my school is better"etc because some schools charge unrealistic tuitions and such crowd needs to justify paying such money, however in my personal experiences and opnion and except for states with disapproved firm laws schools lists [only CA fits such crtieria, yet its too old rules, too unaccepted by most states and based on recent CNN media CA hospitals themselves urgently need site visits due to too many substandard care!!]
after you start training and practice no one care or even know the differenace between carribean schools,if you look at NY,FL,NJ for example ,such states with lists and you will find unapproved schools grads are holding top, best, hard to get positions in those states, now the carribean schools issues is not as sensational as before because no articles or a well planned attacks is active, the worst attacks in 03 done and forced states and FSMB to look at the issue, the end results are more schools opened, none closed, and the FSMB said :we are already doing great job thank you"...
If I recieve a CV from Spartan,Royal college grad in Irland,or AUC grad,I simply will take the most qualified and I know such grad is good since he/she pass all steps....most alleged experts here never been thru all the needed steps and if you are good, you will make it ,if you can't make it to CA then it might be better so you can retire with some cash and not being the pumping money for your tiny house, and creditors with little if any saved$$!!!!!!!I just hired an associate US grad from LA and he was shocked to buy a house on the water with a boat slip for $680.000!!!!and for over one year he saved lots of money and upgraded his standard of living.

good luck/personal opinion.

Hello Newbies,

if you want to know more, I am your past, present and future for spartan.

I have all the info and I dare not say too much. I apologize for being cryptic, but telling you the truth is not always easy and I do not want to be reprimanded if you know what I mean.

Anyways, for those already set on coming I do have tips for you.

Give me your email and I will get in contact sometime in the future.

I am busy studying like most should be, but if you are serious in Spartan then I am sure we will get along.

Please check out the other posts of mine on housing!!!!

I do not want you guys to have the same problems as many students before. Trust me it sucks big time to be looking for housing while you are in class the first week.
-Do NOT pay for all 4 months or MORE!!! Try to arrange the damage deposit to be used for your last month so you don't have to TRY and get it back after the trimester is over.

BURGLAR BARS!!!!!! DEAD BOLTS!!!!! TRUSTY LANDLORDS!!!!
ASK ABOUT THE BANNED HOUSING LIST SO YOU DONT GET ONE OF THOSE HOUSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rent should cost between 800-1400EC a month and split 50/50 for 2 persons!!! NOT 1000 each OK???
Check your AC, Fridge, HOT Water.

There are many Great places to live but also you don't want to be caught for 4 months in a terrible hole....

Good luck!

When you get here a contact list of numbers will be posted at the school for emergencies and inquiries.

Cell phones - Digicell or Cable and Wireless SIM Cards
-Need to be unlocked
-once you have a SIM you can buy Digicell cards or C&W printouts at your local SuperJ (grocerystore) or some gas stations.
-your school SGA (Student Government Association) Store will have Digicell cards so it might be in your best interests to get a Digicell SIM card.

Internet access is ok, sometimes slow. Located in the library upstairs.

Good luck

You can arrange to be picked up at the airport by the school.
Talk to Dr. P to arrange it.

Pick up from Vieux Fort (UVF) is free. If you get picked up from Castries then it will cost you up to 50US.

Exchange is 1US - 2.67EC (eastern Caribbean dollars)

Banks are open 9-4 m-thurs and fri 9-5 Closed Sun,Sat and holidays

Mr. Maxwell is hired by the school to pick you up and show you housing.
He gets tired of showing students housing and likes to show houses where he gets kick-backs to students. BEWARE...
Then there is usually Geraldine who comes to pick you up with Mr. Max but many times she doesn't show up if it is a weekend.

If you are coming from Castries then someone else will pick you up.

If you cannot find good housing the first day or arrive late - then there is Kimitrai Hotel where they will leave you for the night - Cost is 50US a night.

Good luck again......

Hey,

I'm a first tri student (Canadian) going into seconds semester...

If you're looking for a room I have one available (I would be your roommate) that's 1 minute away from school by foot... it has a new a/c unit, free cable tv, free wireless internet, queen size bed, closet, desk, chair... there's an extra tank for hot water, my place never loses water even during hard rain (ask anyone how often this happens hehe).... microwave, toaster, fridge, utensils all provided from the landlord.... The price is around 500-550EC (around 200$ canadian or 180$ U.S)

If you're interested, email me: neodoron@yahoo.com

or add me to msn: neodoron@yahoo.com

Thanks.

Most 4th trimester students that are leaving the Island will leave after Aug 31st - some on the 31st and others within a few days so this is when housing will open up a bit, but you have to really do your research and find those leaving. Once in a while the school will make a list of those students leaving....once in a while....
