Im getting on the ball with researching schools that are recognized by NY state to try to make things a little easier regarding liscensure, doing well on the usmle, gaining residencies, clinical rotations back in the US.... So what Im asking is there anyone from NYC or the tri-state area thats currently enrolled in the english program. Either in the premed, medical, or back in NY doing rotations.

Question1: How is the school curriculum compared to the US standards.

Question2: What is the area surrounding the like? (I keep hearing about how poor EE countries are, crime, ect ect.

Question3: What common problems do American students seem to encounter while enrolled or either trying to come back, or even outside of school work. (downtime)

Question4: What are the positives of going there instead of the other 6yr programs (what does this school offer that others dont)

Thanks!!! I really appreciate it!

The majority of the american students here are from the east-coast. i know of a few students from ny and nj here.

Question1: How is the school curriculum compared to the US standards.
Personally, i think the basic sciences are up to American standards and maybe even better. US curriculms are set to prepare one for the USMLE and is more clinically oriented. it is different here, medical education in Hungary puts more emphasis on the basic sciences.

Question2: What is the area surrounding the like? (I keep hearing about how poor EE countries are, crime, ect ect.)
I have not experienced any crime or racism in Debrecen. And, i think the same goes for the majority of americans/canadians here. it's pretty much a laid back city with a low crime rate. great for studying though.

Question3: What common problems do American students seem to encounter while enrolled or either trying to come back, or even outside of school work. (downtime)
if you're used to the city life. then, debrecen will be hard, because there isn't a lot to do in debrecen. however, budapest is only an hour and half from here. i think most students love it here because it allows more studying and less partying or wasting time doing useless activities.

Question4: What are the positives of going there instead of the other 6yr programs (what does this school offer that others dont).
i think any hungarian school will be fine. it'll come down to how you live and what makes you comfortable.

I grew up in the city, well Queens, Ny and Ive gone to school in Atlanta, Ga and I really excelled while away from home. Nice and quiet, not working, just studying and enjoying myself from time to time. So the countryside would be a big welcome to me.

I heard Budapest is really nice from this Dr at my job (went to school in Romania)

I guess the main thing Im concerned about is gaining clinical rotations back in the US and being able to get a liscence when I finish residency. I guess I should call NY State liscensing board just to make sure.

So where are you from? In what yr of study are you in?

well, i would advise you to look at the carribean if you're concerned about clinicals. but, if you're set on new york. then, i think you will have no problems getting licensed there.
yep, budapest is beautiful but i love it in debrecen. i'm from los angeles and its great to get away from the city life for a change:)! esp. i have a family here with me.
before you make a decision to attend a hungarian school. be aware that it will NOT be like the US. absolutely no spoonfeeding here. you'll have to work extra hard to get through the first 3 yrs here.
good luck!
