I was told that CMU does not have sally mae loans as of yet and that they are working on it, also that they are getting their own loans soon.
I just want to know if anyone knows of this information or if anyone has any idea of financial aid at CMU that has already been approved. Thanks

There will be 3 loan programs offered for CMU's students starting in September: Sallie Mae, Loan Xpress and CMU EduFund. More info will be available within few weeks on our website.

Sallie Mae and Loan Xpress are only for US students.
CMU EduFund will be available for US and Canadian students.

Since Sallie Mae is dropping all Caribbean schools, CMU has organized a MedLoan Fund to assist our students with financing their education and the application is almost ready. By next week all current and prospective students, having cosigner living in US will be able to apply.

I talked to a lady at Sallie Mae yesterday, and she said that they weren't dropping all caribbean medical schools. Here's a link to the one's that they do cover.

I have talked to the Director of SM and he told me the Caribbean medical schools are too much risk for them, therefore the decision of discontinuing the loan program has been made. Same happened 2 years ago with Key Bank. I don’t want to argue with you, just wait and you'll see. By the way, the link you submitted doesnt work.

Ok. Well step by step instructions:
1. go to Sallie Mae - Private Student Loans, Stafford, PLUS, Student Loan Consolidation (http://www.salliemae.com)
2. click on I'm a student paying
3. click on medical school outside the U.S.
4. click on start your stafford loan application.
5. under drop box pick outside the U.S.
6. look at the list under the drop box, select your school.

Riiiiiggghhht.....since the larger more established schools have a default rate close to zero...these are people who are too much of a risk.
i checked the link and all you had to do was go a step back and go back in as a student paying and you got the drop down menu with all the schools outside of the US- and as the the other poster mentioned, there were a number of schools in the caribbean that were listed
SM holds my consolidation loans and I think, yes, I'm pretty sure that if IF they were to stop carrying caribbean schools, they would have told me.
maybe they just don't want to give loans to cmu.

I am a current SJSM student and I can tell you guys that though saint James is still on that list, they will not be by the begining of fall. We are also being dropped. The only schools who will continue to recieve loans are the big 3 and they will be recieving stafford loans through salliemae. No more private loans for the Caribbean.

Probably too much of a risk for new Caribbean schools, yes.

They don’t have to give any loans to CMU since we don’t need them. We have our own loan fund therefore we will never be affected by any other loan companies dropping Caribbean medical schools.
To all students affected by the SM decision, please wait till Monday and download the MedLoan application from our website and apply.

i think the issue is not just if cmu are getting loans but always the honesty and transparency of the information you are relating. Hopefully cmu wont have to learn this the hard way like with the woeful cmu student video campaign.

I didn't apply, I just wanted to see what caribbean schools were listed with Sallie Mae. The only sallie mae loans I have were for undergrad.
