I am wanting to apply for medical school in the U.S. Yet, this is how I stand so far.

I am majoring in biological sciences at UC Riverside
I am going to be a junior (3rd yr) starting fall 2007.
I have a current GPA of 2.786.
I am volunteering at UC Irvine Medical Center (this summer, I will have accumulated at least 75 hrs before summer's over)
I have not yet taken the MCAT's

What should I do now? Any suggestions? Any recommendations? Where should I consider applying?? All help is appreciated

By the way, I heard from somewhere that you need just 3.0+ GPA and good MCAT scores, but I also heard from somewhere else that you need 3.5+ GPA and good MCAT scores to get in. This is all regarding M.D. schools in the United States ... what's the latest?

Thanks,
Mike

You need a killer MCAT of 35+ -

Reality - a GPA of 2.7 is too low for most US medical schools - your route looks like DO school or an island school. Majoring in science is very hazardous to getting into a US medical school. The group think on VMD is to major in something and only take the pre-req's with easy courses and make sure you have an A average in them. You would be surprised at the number percentage of US medical students who are not science majors. They just took the pre-req's or did a post bac program. A GPA 2.7 will possible work for Ross, AUC, AUA, St Matt's and MUA-Nevis. It will not work for SGU or Saba unless you have a good 30ish plus MCAT. (This is according to their offices this spring - yes - I talked to them).
