Hey everyone,

I'm kinda new on here, so sorry if I'm supposed to post in another area.

Here's my issue, I took the MCAT twice, the first time I was dumb and submitted my test even though I knew I did poorly (I injured my foot and it was killing me) and I think I got an 18. So I retook it and got a 30. I have a relatively low gpa (maybe a 3.0 and a 2.5 in science). I've spent a great deal of my time working in all units of a hospital and the reason my gpa is as low as it is was because I'm an idiot and sacrificed study time for volunteer and work time. I've applied to a few Osteopathic schools but did so pretty late and the ones that did respond said that they had a 10% increase in applications this year and denied me an interview.

I really want to go to med school in the fall, but the only chance right now are Carribean schools. Otherwise I can apply for next year in the American schools and probably have a decent shot at it.

So, am I thinking about this the wrong way? Which schools would be more likely to accept based on MCAT and volunteer time? Any advice would be much appreciated.

your mcat is high and balances out your gpa. yoru volunteer work will also help. i think you have a great shot at the 'better' caribbean schools. look up sgu, ross, auc, and saba then apply to all of them you will get in to most if not all of them then research the ones that accept you and see which one best suits your personality.

as a back up in the off chance that the above do not accept you...look at smu, and aua...i don't think you will need to look further

Agree! AUC, SGU, Roos and Saba maybe back up applications at AUA, MUA-N and St Matt's

Thanks a lot, I'll send out a couple more applications. Do you think there's still time before the fall semester?

Maybe - SGU get full faster. Don't worry if you get waitlisted there. The better schools are well worth it. SGU and AUC have very good clinical programs.

I am currently looking into the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. A lot of doctors in my area (Las Cruces, NM/El Paso, TX) have gone to this school. You should look into this school as well.

Actually, I had looked into UAG and it does look pretty nice, but I've heard that Carribean Schools are a bit better than Mexican med schools. That's just hearsay, though. I'm working on an AUC application at the moment, maybe I'll do an SGU app next.
