hello,

since we have certain individuals clamoring about protecting patients
from board certified doctors check out this article. if it is about patient
safety then why are we allowing phy asst/nurse pract. to work
independently?

yes ;these clinics are going to decrease revenues for int med, fam med
pediatrics in practice.

no ;having a MD available on the phone and not on site cannot be
considered supervision.

this legislation should be discussed nationally.
walmart and other chains would like a portion of the money from
delivering primary care.
if you are an ama member(student, resident, praticing physician) contact
them with your concerns

the solution is the primary care shortage is multifold
1) increase seats in medical schools
2) make state licensing more portable including reciprocity agreements
3) improve reimbursement for primary care medicine
list in not complete ; just some ideas

I think this is great. If the marketplace in Illinois thinks it doesn't need doctors and can make do with PAs and NPs doing all these checkups, so be it. When that breast lump goes undiagnosed or the melanoma spreads, patients will turn around and look for the first doctor to sue... and will find noone. Healthcare is crumbling, man. If WalMart has a strong market for providing healthcare, and insurance and patients take them up on it, America's health is doomed. And I love how some "human resource consulting" dude has the authority and insight to declare that the only reason the doctor's association is opposing this is because it might cut into business.

Give them enough rope and let them hang.
