My test is in October, and i want to sign up for UW next month. I m planning to do at least one block and take my time go over questions everyday. I m currently review goljan patho and i jz finished physio. Do u guys think i have enough info to use UW? What mode should i use during my UW review? Should i use radom mode or by subject? Thanks folks for ur reply.

you should be signing up for uworld TODAY! And doing questions TODAY. It's one of the greatest mistakes to wait to sign up for a question bank when you think you're "ready." These question banks are there so you can learn as you practice doing questions. The more you practice, the more familiar you'll be, plus when reading the explanations you'll be learning a lot as well.

one of the pros of uw is that it allows you to mold the acquired knowledge and teaches you to apply it to the question stem. If you learn stuff off of uw without covering that subject/system, chances are you would get many questions wrong and it would be jus like textbook. When you see something which you have covered already, you will definitely recognize the beauty of the question stem. Keeping that in mind, the way i do it is not to cover something i recently studied, but it is definitely something i have covered sometime before. Few exceptions are ok for minor subjects.

What is the mode that u guys recommend to use? Should i use random mode or per subjects mode? Or doesnt matter.

because i choose to use uw as a review after studying, random mode doesnt really work out with this. Also i try to be structural as i can be. I rarely do exact 50 q. since i take notes.. i left few pages in the front for indexing. for example, it would look like this "test 8 - MICRO - pulmonology and reproductive - (33/46) - 72%. test 9.. etc, etc.

Concepts are sometimes repeated or you may learn few things from explanations which may help you answer upcoming questions. If you use uw as a learning tool rather than as assessment, this method might do you some real good. Also, im thinking about taking up another uw acct (1mth) to do random, timed mode in the last month and go over incorrect ones only. Recognize the different methods and ask yourself which would get you the most results within a set time frame. good luck.
