First of all, I appreciate most of you taking the time to read through my message. I have a few questions:

1.) I'm wondering how much it will cost for tution, in total, at Spartan(including rent/housing)? I calculated maybe about 36k for tuition for the entire program.

2.) What is the acceptance rate for Spartan?

3.) Given the low cost tuition, is Spartan really a choice one should consider? I'm just planning on practicing either in MA or MD... maybe somewhere else in the future but definately not California.

I appreciate the time and concern this board puts into answering these questions. I have a ~3.4 GPA right now. TO be truthful, I'd rather just get through school and just get it done. I'm not worried about the US stigma.

"just get through school and just get it done" is perhaps one of the worst mentalities one can have for medical school, especially Caribbean medical schools. All Caribbean students will have looked as inferior to US med schools, but each to varying degrees. So look into what the school can offer you BESIDES just sitting for the USMLEs.

Thanks for your reply SOE, I should have clarified. I meant just get through the application process and get that portion done. It's a daunting task choosing which school to go to out of the many that are out there.

I think a 3.4 GPA can get you to any carribean school.Spartan does have practicing physicians in MA and MD.considering the frequent changes [like one time Illinois decide to use CA list then they drop it,NM did the same, and so on],few states do not want to take the responsibility of starting to discriminate on the basis on news and articles and a non LCME evaluators,so they use whatever available resources and 2 resources available at this time:the CA visit to handfull of schools and the FSMB report in 2006,which stated that state boards are doing good job to eliminate the bad candidates, things are ok now because after all the storm and well planned campaign to drive schools out of business and close the doors by anticipated new state rules,it really did not have too much negative impact on carribean schools future. As a person who have applied to so many licenses in the US and abroad,I learn one thing:discrimination does not hold if you are good.
so what is the bottom line for your question: my personal feeling[not advise] I will consider AUC,ROSS and get Stafford loans ,the tuition is much higher at those colleges but the chances of success also higher, when you finish you can work in a place as first job for 2 yrs committment and many will help pay most of the loans ....little tougher intial road will eventually pay off.

just my personal opnion.

*16 months your in St. Lucia at $3500 a semester.
*Apartments run around $350-$450 for 2&3 BR (not sure if you want a roommate)
*buy your books in the states, much cheaper
*if you pass step I, you can choose which hospital you want to do your clinicals at and not have to pay a clinical fee

The cost can vary depending on you. How did you plan to finance it? R U trying to get a lump sum loan for everything now? You have to factor in airfare as well. Would you stay 16 months without returning home? Lots of students will be willing to tell you cost saving ways to make it on the Island.

Can we do clinicals in one hospital instead of moving around?

You don't have to pay tuition from your noise for it to be recognize. Spartan is afortable because they are not eligible for Financial aid any longer. And how did they ended up here not eligibla for financial aid? it because of some nocle heads who think because a school is in the Carribean they can apply and authomatically became a Physician....well no Brother...you have to put in the time nomatter when on earth the school is...I will be back

According to their website the tuition is $4250. Have they lowered it recently?

Why dont you do you research before posting your feed, I have worked in 10 Hospitals in MD and I personally know at least 6 spartan Graduate. 2 doing fellowship, 3 private practice and 1 in residency. If you are just too lazy do anything just google it you'l find it please before pasting anything here.

:) this medical school is still the most affordable in the entire caribbean. with the new ownership group from new york, it sounds more promising than it was before...hopefully they can get NY and CA approval. one good thing is they have secure the SAME hospitals where Ross and StMatts and AUC students rotate in New York, Chicago, and Baltimore...at one-third the tuition!

lots of improvements need to be made but it looks promising.
