A patient has stage 4 lymphoma. Will he / she be around in 5 yrs: Probably not.

Does the medcat predict med school success? All this question is asking is did you do well on the medcat. Those that did will say yes, those that did not will say no.

Very interesting, esp about lymphoma. What it has to do with CMU?

Nothing: The thesis of the statement was about not putting too much faith in the medcat

Nothing: The thesis of the statement was about not putting too much faith in the medcatActually the MCAT verbal reason score is the best predictor of medical school success and success on the USMLE tests. So I would not drop a load on the MCAT being useless.

I feel that every student going into med school should at least take it, b/c there is some correlation between how you will do on the USMLE and how one did on their MCAT. I know there are exceptions to the rule, but the stats support it. As Mr James stated, sections like the verbal show a strong correlation. Your verbal score is the most important score med schools will look at in your application (besides overall score), then Biology, then Physics/Chem. I think every med school in the caribbean should at least require students to take the MCAT (MedCAT to CMU students) before applying.

I remember reading the strongest correlation was with MCAT to USMLE, and Undergrad grades to medical school grades. My favorite statement from biostats is corrlelation is not causation. With stats; however, what is the causation for the corrlelation?

More interesting question: are there any Caribbean people with high USMLEs who did not score very well on MCAT? (Just about all of the people I know with 99s all got 30+ MCATs.)

Followup: Are any of those people who answered "yes" to the first question, think they could have done better if they had more time to prepare, more motivation, etc.?

Why are you discussing MCAT issue at CMU forum? Is there general forum for that kind of problems?
