Does anyone know of any international/English medical schools out there that are non-alleopathic. i.e. N.D. or D.O.?

I am trying to decide between D.O. school here in the states and M.D. abroad (probably UAG).

Gracias

i don't know of any D.O. outside the US. it's a US thing only, but it's becoming more and more internationally recognized, if that helps. the other thing that's M.D. equivalent is the M.B.B.S degree (takes 6 or more years, because it's your undergrad type courses plus medicine), whereas in the US you get your B.S. or B.A. degree, then the M.D.

OK - DO schools are what are called the lessor medical schools in the US along with about five or six US schools like Morehouse and Meharry in Nashville. UAG is a 5th pathway school. Many people attempt to transfer out of UAG after they pass the step 1 exam after basic science. This is an unspoken thing there. I know many who have done it.

I would recommend the DO route over 5th pathway. For several reasons, one is time before residency. US residencies are getting tighter. DO's are getting preference over the lessor island schools now. After SGU, Ross, AUC & Saba. This is a major thing to consider. With a US DO school you are 50 state - no issues.

ND - I really hate to knock them and as my grandmother said If you can't say anything nice - don't say it. I know of many ND's who decide to go to medical school. The reason is that is where the action is.

DO schools are "lessor medical schools?" I am sorry but I respectfully disagree.

D.O.s are docs. Period. They get all the training that docs get PLUS 300+ hours of additional training in osteopathic manipulative medicine.

The main difference is in the approach. D.O.s approach medicine holistically. They value the importance of the integration of the human body - that it is more than just a sum of its parts.

I appologize for the soapbox session, but I think this misunderstanding of the DO pathway is grossly misunderstood.

I dont think a lot of DOs care much about the holistic approach. Thats kind of like saying that MDs dont give a squat.

I disagree w/ Lynton on a couple of points however.

....Soapbox OK - DO schools are called the lessor schools because you don't need a 3.6+ GPA and a 34+ MCAT to get in. You can get into with less grades and 20 ish MCAT scores. Please don't think I am against them or knocking them. They are very good schools with a different point of view. I may be at one. I am also fine with that. There are US 50 state schools.
