Hey,

I am thinking whether or not I should buy a MAC or a PC while going down to SABA. I've read in the student handbook that SABA univ does not recommend MACs...is there a specific reason other than maybe the tech dept not well versed in MAC computers?

Also, down the road, do any of you foresee any problems with compatibility issues with MAC and software (i.e. specific programs used by the uni that are not supported by MACs?...or do you guys just use the basics, MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe, etc)

Thanks in advance.

I use a mac, and havent had any problems, other than the PC users jealously eyeing my macbook pro.

I did have one problem last semester. we had to do a presentation and the other people in my group had PCs and when we put my powerpoint slides on their computers some of the pictures didnt show up as they werent using quicktime decompressors(i think that was why). I ended up having to re download the images on the PCs to put them in the powerpoint.

there are 5 or 6 other mac users in my class and we are all fine. really its just a preference issue...especially with universal binary on the way...

Hey Boulderunner...

What about when the AV guy has to say "For all the Mac users, the new IP address is...?" All of us who have real laptops just type in "clasroom01" and everything works fine.............................................. ...........

.......................... OK, I just had to reboot, this laptop only crashes about once or twice a day...

You do have a really cool laptop case, though! :)

I think I will get him to address us from now on as...

For all you superior beings containing machines without viruses or bugs, the new IP address is.....

Apple has always (since before many of you were born) TERRIFIC ads for their products.

Apple's market share has always been ~10% or less.

Too bad...the new apples are almost good enough to use. Too bad they aren't worth the over-inflated price they ask.

actually i compared prices when i got my macbook pro and couldnt find a pc any cheaper that had the same processor and accessories. add to that the superior aesthetics of the apples and the superior OS, lack of viruses and add ware and....you get my point. Also as the new apples are intel core 2 duos you could load windows on it(not that you would ever want to do that.). I contemplated running windows on my macbook. I just dont like the user interface and especially dont like having to run a virus protection program all the time. I dont even own virus software for my mac....if you get a PC you can only run windows-and are stuck with all the "joys" vista, and "fatal exception" error messages.

another little tid bit. all new macs are sporting the 802.11n wireless....

Hey, I saw a Mac quit working once, somewhere. The guy had to find his power cord and plug it in because, to put it in his whiney words, "My battery died and I had to get my power adapter."

Anyone with a real laptop knows that you always have to keep the thing plugged-in. Come on, get real.
