Greetings to all,

I wil be starting at windsor this September (07), just wondering about the current students in sem 3 for september, is there anybody out there?

The uni offers free housing but you have to pay US$125 fee each month, so i guess it aint free. Can you please let me know if there is any share accomodation out there and what the price range is?

I would alo appriciate any advice from the current students. jut to be able to get some inside information from the actual students and not the uni staff.

cheers people

sina,

School housing is not bad at all. You will not find anything on the island for a single less than $600 US a month. (nice place)

Stick with school housing and you should be fine. If you are a female the best place to live is Golf View. Ask to live there, its close to the Marriott . Also try to come as early as possible to the island. (5-7 days before school starts) Because good housing goes fast.

Feel free send me a PM if you need more info.

:D

not a female mdin2009.

Thanks for your replies, i guess the best thing is to get there a couple weeks earlier, have a look first and see what options there are.i guess a share acomodation database for windsor students is not available then.

how many students are actually studying there in total? i heared it was about 200.

I don't think you need to come a couple f weeks earlier. I say about 1 week should be good, however you might get bored real quick specially since there will be no school and most of the students don't come back till like 2-3 days after classes start.

I agree with MDIN2009 school housing is fine. But if you are a guy, like me, you get some shitty housing sometimes, but keep on bugging the admin staff and soon you will find a better place to live, that's what I did.

if you are a guy...i suggest asking for the great apartments in line kiln (sic), affectionately known as the "dirty thirty" basically 10 three room apartments that you would share with two other guys.
as far as the monthly amount paid extra this is known in the real estate world as "OER" or owner expense reimbursement. that is out of the schools hands, a way landlords can keep up maintenance. what you don't have to come up with is first and last months plus security deposit.
i think MDin2009 was being very optimistic with the 600$ estimation, as i looked around at "decent" places my first semester here for about 750$ to 900$ single room...better to have roommates for the "study sessions".
If you compare with a school in the USA, all considered, a great price.
I say this because you will get hit up for additional fees...but comparatively minimal.

Sina,

I have been accepted for the Fall semester, too. I am planning to attend, as long as I can arrange financial aid.

pac2md i will push for the "dirty thirty" apartments and see what happens.

im gono be studying day and night anyways so all is needed is a desk, bed, lamp, kitchen and certainly electricity, ive been in some dodjy places and i think this time i got my priorities sorted.

since youve taken the time to actualy reply let me squeeze in a couple more questions.

do these places have internet access? i guess it depends on the ouse and people, how much is subscription and is it a good idea to buy a router or a wireless kit and bring it with me?

how may students in total at windsor?

how many gonno be in the 3 sem for sep?

WHAT ABOUT THE BOOKS? i did 3 sem in Ukraine and man there had no resources there. i know they say thay supply but can you people recommend any i should get. besides first aid kit.

HAVE YOU HEARED OF ACCESS MEDICINE? it looks good, has anyone used it before?

you got to set up an internet account with either Cable&Wireless or TheCable. I suggest CW because it's more reliable and much faster. The subscription is 125EC/month. It will be a good idea to bring a wireless router with you that works --preferably a LinkSys

There's about 300 or so on the island...

100+

In sem3, the school provides you with all textbooks. However for Microbiology, bring with you Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple. For Neuroanatomy, the textbook the school provides you (by Richard Snell) is sufficient. Do not bother getting a text for Comm Med, and for Pathology, although the school provides you with the Robbins Text, I'd suggest getting a BRS - Pathology to supplement.

Okay..i was told that living at Windsor is free and that I only have to pay $125.00 a month just to actually live on the Island itself. is all this true?? Or is the majority of the students here just like spending like around $600 a month for better living or do you have to find your own place?? i'm reallly confused! I'll be attending windsor this September as well.

MDIN2009

Try Lime Kin if you can next semester. Housing comes out to 375$ per month; that is with the 1K included in tuition and 500$ maintenance charge per semester. You can't find a place on the island for that low. The 500$ charge was put in place last semester due to the fact some of the students had a hard time cleaning/destroying their apartments.

You will probably get in, but can you get out and pass Step 1?? I know some people will say they "need a chance" or "are more motivated than ever"...but from experience here, that does not work down here.I would suggest you try improving your GPA and apply elsewhere.

cmon...give the guy a chance
windsor definitely will give u the opportunity to practice medicine
if you're willing to work "hard"
and make studying for step 1 your life
then i dont see a problem...

I got two PM's lately about a certain topic which I wanted more info on from anyone that might be in the better know that myself....

Basically, I have been asked what housing is near the new campus.

A few girls during their interviews have been told that they are going to be housed at a "new place" near the new campus for this September. What is this place as I didn't know anything was in that area?

And now, if this is the case, current students that might know more than I could answer:

- What is around that area in terms of groceries, banking, etc.
- How safe is that area to live in? Is it good like Bird Rock?
- What does this complex look like?

Onewithhope...dont let what others say get to you. I think you can get in and do well if you put your mind to it. You might have made mistakes in the past, but there's no reason why u cant correct them and shine now. Hope to see you in Sept bud.

Hey guys

I'm also starting in Sept '07 and I would like to know who you contact about housing arrangments to get into all of those nice places you guys are talking about. Also, how much spending money is good for the time we are there. I am going into the HCP program. Are housing arrangments different for this program? Your reply is appreciated. ~Duttch

Same as everyone else. Get there early for a nice place. The school is getting very crowded.

I'm sooooo happy. I'm done ...i've left the island for good.:p.

Bring some cash...but if u have ATM card ur good...especially Bank of America. Local ATM give only EC....then ATM's at Marriott Casino give USD

Hello,

I am having a problem with getting my Police Clearance certificate. I went today and they said it will take about 30 days to process it. I am a Canadian passport holder. Is it critical for me to bring a police clearance once I arrive on the island? Or can I have them mail it to me on the island and then I can get my visa processed accordingly.

In addition, ca we pay our tuition with VISA?

As well, when do we get our information packages i.e. after we pass our interviews or after we pay our tuition and fees?

Karim

Where are you located that its taking you 30days?

When I came, I went to a place in Mississauga and it took 48hrs.

btw, you need the clearance for immigration. You dont need it ASAP but its wise to have it with you when you arrive since getting mail from overseas takes time and FedEx'ing a document from Canada is EXPENSIVE.

You can probably pay by creditcard, but remember some basics:

- you will can a US conversion surcharge from your bank, its standard in Canada, of about 2% on the conversion
- the school charges about 4% surcharge on their end for paying anything with creditcards

This can add up.

I'm from Western Ontario. Here its pretty backed up cause we only have the police station that does the service. In addition, just to double check and make sure: Canadian do not need to get a visa before arriving on the island, correct?

hi sina,

i read that u're also from ukraine medical school....i tried to get in touch with u via private message but looks like u've not received any of them.
i am also in medical school in moscow (PFUR) and was looking into transferring into windsor....so if you could just lead me into how did u transfer into windsor, how many transfer credits you've gotten, how probable is it that they will accept a transfer student...if you've contacted someone specific in order to transfer, I would really appreciate if you can tell me who to contact.

you can contact me via email: cshah19@gmail.com if you'd like.
