Hi.
I'm a straight graduate from highschool and am considering hungarian medical schools. I have read through 'most' of the threads here on board and other forums, and needless to say, I've spent time on reading publications and articles as to hungarian med.

Here I have 2 simple questions so hope this wouldn't stress your eyes (as mines pretty exhausted from scanning through the bulk of 'papers' and 'research reports' posted here.

1. In comparison to other univ,(esp. with Semmelweis) Univ. of SZEGED is less expensive. There should be reasons why so and I hope to know if it is due to bad quality of the education in SZEGED, that makes SZEGED with cheaper tuition fees.

2. I have not heard any official, internationally recognised facts that help accredition of any hungarian universities. Their international uni rank are not good, reputation I am not very well aware of. So, if there is any offical record or personal records of quality of edu. in each univ that puts one med school up than another, please please share it with us.

P.S
I have just graduated from highschool and am planning to get into Basic medical course, as I have studied Chem in my year 11, thus not a good enough science knowledge to apply for an entrance exam. Yet I have heard that BMC(Basic Medical Course), or Pre-med -whichever you prefer calling- does not teach you much science but English. Is this true?

sorry but i lost my first post which was a detailed post. anyway, all four hungarian univ. (english programs) are accredited in california. and only UDMHSC is accredited in new york. which allows our students to do more than 12 weeks of clinical rotations outside our school's affiliated hospitals. for the purpose of licensure in that state.

all hungarian univ. are the same. they follow very similar curriculums. from what i've heard from hungarian students semmelwies is at the top. then, UDMHSC, szeged, & pecs.

all the best!

Firsty, where/ what high school did you complete?

Next, the Basic Medical course is a big waste of time-- sure, they teach some of the subjects that supposedly help in the first year or so. But it is a totally unrecognised thing-- that is, you get nothing for the course except a measly certificate that is worthless everywhere. Its just another $$$ machine for them. Wiser to use that year in better ways than this even if you want to come to Hungary.

As for the value of Hungarian Foreign Grads and the English Course curriculum, you are right in its valuation and placement. Many places look down on it. They are all listed by WHO, but so are so many places-- because of their LOCAL course. Ask yourself the quality of studying in ENglish in a non-english country. This is not some good russian schools that make a year of russian language mandatory. Sure-- there is 2 years of hungarian language in year 1 and 2, but most graduates do not know more than "Jo napot" (good day). And WE DO NOT SHARE CLASSES WITH LOCALS-- that is a very important factor in quality determination-- the english course is not given proper attention-- they don't care what kind of docs they ship back to their respective countries. Their admissions requirements are flimsy-- another quality determiner-- under 18s, no highschool completions, no science backgrounds-- all are welcome.

Good Luck
