dont rly need MDs except in Path and clinical medicine, my schools had MDs and Phds in the same departments in various subjects and they were equally competent.

in the basic sci years there is nothing wrong with PhDs teaching. think about it. there is no "physio" residency etc. Specialists inthe area tend to be PhDs. Best to understand the issues before leveling a criticism.
