Hello everyone,
I know there have been posts about what books to use for what subjects and I apologize if this is just one more of those but I am truly lost.

I am starting to review Pathology for the boards and I don't know which resources to use. I know that path is probably the biggest component on the boards.

Obviously everyone is going to say Goljan. But I have only the audios for it...i don't plan on only using that as my study guide. I will use it but along with what? How is Kaplan for Pathology. My initial plan was do Kaplan Pathology book and then listen to Goljan.

Please help me out.

I would recommend Goljan. Even if you dont have his notes, you can take your own notes while listening- his is so much pathophysio as well that it will hurt you not to utilize the audio! I would recommend First Aid before I would recommend Kaplan for Path. (If you are just starting to study, do First Aid prior to listening to Goljans lectures) Also, check out webpath online for pictures. Much luck!

Really? First Aid over kaplan?

take up Goljan's Rapid Review 2nd edition. (better than kaplan) it saves you time for making notes from audio.. n goes hand in hand very well with audio. do first aid afterwards as review.. annotate during first time around.

ps: book has nice pics and gives you web password for more pics.. i read somewhere in the forums that sources for those pics are the same for nbme.. and some have seen exact ones on step1. others have seen pics directly off of FA too. Havent taken the test yet, so cant validate it myself.

Hi there!
Thanks so much for the reply! Where do i get this book?

You can start by trying in a bookstore or by the internet in Amazon.

If you are in the states you can try Borders, Barn and Novels or any univeristy book store.

Good luck

Hi there,

OK so I have bought the rapid review book 2nd edition. Seems very good. Here is what I plan to do....but please please feel free to give ur inputs!

Spend a week reading FA path....then listen to Goljan audio while using the rapid review book. There are 37 audio files so I was thinking doing 4 files a day for about 10 days.

My exam is at the end of august. And so after my path review I plan on starting UW questions....basically beinging of july.

Do i need more those resouces for path? I will not be using kaplan.

Thanks.

i think you can maximize your study by throwing that week of FA at the end of RR and audio.

I actually have FA open on the side while doing RR and annotate things in. You'll soon start to feel that FA is just a skeleton, esp for path. i refused to believe that in the beginning of my studies.. but not anymore. For example, I cover cardiac anatomy,..., physio, then path, I would listen to all 4 cardio lectures afterwards keeping FA open throughout to take notes. Then i give a whole day of FA just for cardio system.. more like a 2nd review thinking through the annotated material. some planning is def. involved. might work for some.

if it helps: Its easy to run out of space in FA esp. for anatomy, embryo, histo part where its usually just a page or two. Try not to clutter FA as much as possible. I jus take audio notes on RR itself with one specific color pen. I have also reserved abt 2 weeks+ for only FA b4 the exam. Then lets jus depend on God for rest.

You should be reading FA religiously everyday, on your breaks, on the toilet, etc

I personally used ONLY kaplan for path and found that it was more than enough!
