I want to know ONE thing and only ONE single thing. Why does the opening of this school bother people? As for the standard statements, make them better, because the people slamming this place are not slamming other schools. This one has been targeted for some reason. WHY?

as far as i understand, few other school are kinda pissed off. sjsm is for sure and then smu is another one. i wouldnt be surprised if sjsm offered scholarship to its student for posting most number of posts against cmu. not that im interested in cmu but i think they got a much better start. btw competition is always good for everyone in the long run

I think it may be due to those caribbean schools who have busted their butts to make a good name for themselves, i.e., "Big Three" are being lumped in with very subpar schools and it hurts the overall reputation. No one will confuse SGU for CMU (Unless they look at the website), but both are Caribbean schools. For all those prospective students and their parents who are looking for alternitives to US med schools, This can be dangerous.
People do your research...New basketball nets, two types of diet sodas, and a youtube video should not be the basis to judge the competency of a MeD school.
Maybe I'm not brave enough to take a chance thinking that maybe I will be allowed to do clinicals somewhere or obtain a residency or even get licensed somewhere. I for one, would like to know what the school offers NOW..not what it may or may not offer in the coming years.
Good luck to all you brave folks..you will need it, because without luck, you don't stand a chance.

WHY?You ask me why and I don't know - give me a head with hair long lovely hair. - Sorry - I had a flash back to the 70's - I was getting my first masters at Georgia State. I had friends who could not get into US schools so they applied and went to UAG in Mexico. My Spanish sucked - I could not imagine me taking medical classes in Spanish. Then we heard about SGU on Grenada, a small place called Ross and a hole on the side of a volcano called AUC. We all thought - total wipeout. Guess what we were wrong back then. Ok CMU joins and makes the seven dwarfs in the island schools now. Who knows what will happen next. First, do your research, next realize the risk. Third, don't come posting several semesters from now that you took get smart pills. Realize the risk, work hard, do better than your best. If you fail - it is you! Best wishes.

I chatted with a CMU official today and was pleased to know they offer all rotations in my home state Illinois - that would save me some $20k in travel/housing expenses. I'm still confused about where this school is headed, and if all is well, I'll transfer next year.

really what hospitals? dont they need to be aprove by WHO before they can do rotations in the US? or at least by the conutry they are inn?

Sorry, I'm not sure about that; you may want to speak to the official. But I know there are plenty of hospitals here like Michael Reese, Jackson Park, etc., that take in foreign med students. Are you from IL? Their office is in Rosemont - about 20 minutes away from my house.

yes there are hospitals that take foreign students- and i believe that ross has those hopsitals posted on their website as affliated hospitals-CMU has not posted the names of the hospitals, even though it is SOP to do so. What names did the CMU person give you? Any?

It appears CMU isn't yet listed with IMED - FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (http://imed.ecfmg.org)
The interesting thing is they already have students enrolled! Not sure how that worked out...

ive noticed you are interested in transferring. from one medical student to another, i would strongly recommend you try to transfer to another place. it will be an unneeded headache down the road for you. have you looked at aua, smu, mua nevis, etc? even spartan would be better than this school at this point in time .

I will surely look at those school. But I plan to transfer in September 2008. I guess, by that time CMU may be doing better or else they'll shut it down.

We believe students have a right to choose and compere schools before attending or transfering, CMU wont be close since it was established on a solid foundation. Good luck with your new school

Don't fool yourself. Nobody who chooses to attend CMU does so because they compared it with other schools and decided it was the better decision. They attend there because they have no other choice.

The reason why we are here is not because we didnt have anywhere else to go. I was actually enrolled in another school on the same island, and that school did not meet my requirments. So, i decided to transfer to CMU to actually get a real education and atleast they keep all there promises. So next time you post i think you should get ur facts and info right first.

first of all... I'm a CMU student.
And I did compare my old school with CMU... and yes I decided to be in CMU because the other school was a total chaos!
Is not that I didn't have another choice, I could stay there or come to the new school =)

There's no other med school on the island. Actually...there's no recognized medical school anywhere on the island! If you could have gotten into an accredited medical school, there are two options:
1) You would have gone
2) You made a mistake

What was your last school? It was either not accredited (like CMU) or you made a terrible decision.

I know with what I'm dealing with, every ''new'' school passes over many things like CMU is.
I wonder if is so hard to understand
Now that u ask.. my old school was St. martinus.

i have no idea of your personal circumstances. however without 1) established pass rates on the boards 2) licensing documentation in the states you wish to practice in and 3) WHO IMED FAMIR etc accred and a track record, a school automatically goes to the bottom of the list.
and with regard to what "you know" and my need for a job- well ill see what i can do about that.

Then get a job!
ohh don't go there, i think a radiation oncologist qualifies as quite the job.
i don't know why you're taking a defensive approach on this. if you feel that CMU is the best school that you could get into, then that is your opinion and i applaud you for that. others may disagree that schools with track records, graduates, approvals of certain states (NY, CA etc) are attributes of better caribbean schools.

Yeah! I used to be just like you, defending a school. There is nothing wrong with that at all. But stick to the argument and don't make that type of comment about someone you don't know of her content.
I wish I had her job! Damn, I would never miss work and spend time playing with high tech radiation and x-ray gadjets, like a kid with his first Atari.
