Subject: Listing of a new medical school
Dear FAIMER,
Please be informed that I am communicating with a medical school called
Caribbean Medical University(www.CMUmed.org)in (http://www.CMUmed.org%29in) Curacao, Netherlands
Antilles, that is offering admission to a four year MEDICAL DEGREE program after college education.
I could not find the name in the FAIMER list of medical schools. School
admin. says that the Government of Curacao and Government of Netherlands
Antilles has sent a letter to FAIMER requesting its enlistment, hence FAIMER will automatically enlist CMU in due course.
Before making any financial commitment to CMU I intend to inquire
whether FAIMER received any request from the Government and what is the prospect of CMU being listed. It is my understanding that unless a school is listed, its graduates are not eligible to sit for the qualifying examination in USA and / or Canada.
Please advise

I'll contact them since the documents have been sent already.

How come the user has been permanently banned and yet posting insulting messages on the forum?

He is banned because he has multiple accounts which is against the TOS.

It's the other way around. This user created a multiple account and posted from it, then was automatically banned by our system very shortly after posting (probably before you had the chance to read the post).

The banned person only posted twice on that account. Permanently banned does lose credibility; also, if the issues are unsubstantiated, then this will wind up in the thread graveyard on a server somewhere.

I really don't consider posting that ECFMG has never heard of the school (and thus students would be ineligible to take the USMLE) to be insulting, but rather essential information for any prospective students considering the school.

Who cares if he's banned? He makes a good point!! Perhaps they should ban misleading admins!

My guess is that IMED receives some of its data from the W.H.O. which is currently updating its world database with the help of the University of Copenhagen. It could take many months to complete that project and start adding new schools to the database.

and i would say that is a reasonable thought- so i guess we'll wait and see- but would it be retroactive for eligiblity? I wouldn't think so...

Surely what matters in these instances is what the territorial government notifying FAIMER (or WHO for that matter) tells them and any licensing authorities.
Civil servants can be slow to send out letters; compilers of directories slow to update, and so on. But, if the govt. tells FAIMER that the school was recognized/chartered from May 2007 that is what matters: not when it is published. The temporary absence of a listing does not, I'm sure, spell doom.
This is of course assuming that N.A. authorities have given it their blessing. I agree that people need to find out about this - and soon!
