Just a quick note to let students who will be attending SMU this Fall know that if you have any questions about the program here in Curacao please don't hesitate to ask.
All the best!

If anyone has any questions about SMU feel free to ask. Dont ask me about about CMU! And by the way, I dont care what you do or where you end up going. Just do something with your life and stop playing around.

Hello,
I'm attending this fall and was hoping if you can tell me if the school is in good standing and why a few professors have lost their license in certain states?
I'm getting a lot of negative feedback from a lot of current students and am thinking twice about this school.
Please advise on the school, financial aid, and professors.

I don't have any negative comments, I've been at the school 5 semesters and have had no problems. Once you study hard I feel you should be fine at st martinus. This forum has lots of negative comments yes, but most of us do not post on this site. This site can be a time waster, as I am doing now. :).
The usmle record has been very encouraging so far. No one has posted about that, I know people's , friends scores, but I cannot post them. I can say that at least 90% of people have passed first try. Most have had scores more than 85. Thats as detailed as I can give, if students want to post their own scores its up to them. I'm not an advertisement for the school.
wrt to loans, I know people have sallie mae loans. I don't know for sure what other loans are available. I imagine they are on the schools site. I know for sure friends of mine have sallie mae, and they get their money every time disbursed.
I am no cheerleader saying come to this school. I'm saying that its a school that if you fail and are falling behind, you will not be given special coddling. If you don't pick yourself up, you will not make it. Its a small school, some students left recently for another school. Its my feeing they did not fit with the philosophy of the school. This is ok, because every one needs to be where they feel comfortable.
Anything else or if I forgot to address something, forgive me.
I forgot this part...the professors and the license thing, one of them has actually mentioned this in class in an open way. Whatever happened really did happen, its all over the internet. I see that as a gain for me, because if it were not for that incident or mishap, I would not have had the benefit of such experienced and well trained professors. They are really good teachers. So they are slightly damaged goods! So, bottom line, I don't care because they teach really well. I can still do the usmle. The consequences of the mishap or incident do not prevent them from teaching.

As someone whose been at SMU a year I really don't have anything to complain about.. sure they don't coddle you and dole out superficial candy like some other..uh "new" schools in the region, but the academics and professors are great and as long as you have a lot of self-discipline you'll do just fine.

The most important thing in deciding which school is best for you is the quality of education you receive. St Martinus has taken a good position on that and I will say this over and over again.
Yeah, people left the school for different reasons...some financial, some academic-wise. Let's face it, this is a medical school; not a high school. People ought to get off their feet and realize this is a journey that isn't easy. In fact, it shouldn't be easy. It ought to present with lots of challenges...several hours of studying per day, changing life situations, mood changes! It is your ability to cope with all these things and balance your life and school that gives a relative indication of how you could balance your life and be a good physicians in the future. You can sit and whin about everything, but it probably is that you just don't have what it takes to be a physician. This said, St Martinus is a great school. I've been here for 5 semesters. I love it, and I am waiting for the opportunity to start giving back to this great school. The teachers are excellent.
Long live St Martinus, long live the students!

St Martinus students usually do not post on this forum. This is not always a wise idea, because prospective students need to hear your honest balanced opinions.
Certainly St Martinus students have not usually been guilty of cheerleading.
I am happy to see the balanced posts in this thread, and happy also to hear that some of the rigid standards enforced at this school are still adhered to.
