Hi

I'm planning to study my pre-med course in MMA on sept 2007.
I would like to explain to some ppl that i see on this forum that loves to criticize about why ppl wants to go study in russia when there is other much better medical schools in US or europeon countries..

Basicly the answer is simple..
I'm from malaysia...middle class family and i CANNOT afford to study in US or any europeon countries. Trust me i checked everywhere before resigning to choose russia. Heck, I can't even afford studying in my own country..

But, i really appreciate some ppl telling me how life is there..it's definately a big help as i can prepare myself..Thanks

well russian medical schools are cheap thats y most ppl go there
but importantly u should work hard. i have seen students going abroad (not only to russia, even to US , UK and Aus ), and are intent to enjoy their stay as a holiday than study. Well if u have have the attitude then, y not join the russian univ.

Masamune, Russian Medical schools do have good professors and teachers. Become a good doctor or bad doctor, it depends on how you work.

Nothing wrong with studying in a Russian institute, but I would advise everyone with other options against it. Russian Universities have have good professors and you can get a good education, but the educational system there is ****** to put it bluntly.

In American and most other universities, the faculty respects you as a student. In Russian universities you are very much like a slave to the system. The best thing I could describe it to would be the military. The teacher and faculty hold rank... they give the orders and you are expected to follow. This leads to a whole slew of other authority issues such as not being allowed to be late or leave early from classes, teachers expecting you to pay them money for missing their class if you want to sit for their exams, etc.

Besides the system, in Russia you will also have to deal with the possible dangers of being a foreigner. There have been big issues concerning safety with all foreigners (especially non-white foreigners). I know of some Asians that work with the US government that won't even set foot in Russia right now.

Again, take what you want from all this. I would consider trying to find other options if I were you. But in the end it's your decision and you have to do what's best for you. You can get a good education in Russia, but just be prepared to put up with all the extra cr@p that comes along with it.

If I were you I'd look into the Czech Rep. If you can learn Czech, you can study for free. You only pay tution if you study in English there. They have very good universities, and the system is much better than the Russian system.
