A lot of ppl on this forum recommend HY molec & cell bio - it covers a lot of stuff that isn't in First Aid, like Zn fingers, Leucine zippers, and apparetly has a great chapter on Gproteins, etc.

My question is: I went to the store and browsed thru the new (2006) edition. It's so HUGE! (~210pages) and I think a lot of the stuff in there is overkill. Admittedly, they do show you the molecular underpinnings of different diseases, but hopefully with just a grounding, we can put 2 & 2 together on our own [limited time factor]. The OLD ed. (1999) wasnt in teh store obviously BUT is online and looks a alot more readable (~120pages).... DO YOU GUYS KNOW IF THERE IS VITAL INFO IN THE NEW ED THAT ISNT IN THE FIRST ED???

If it has significantly more information, it doesn't matter if it's vital. The Boards will get very nitpicky on this subject. So knowing is half the battle, yo Joe.

i was in the same shoes at one point.. what i decided to do was to get the latest edition (2nd) and decided to weed out the parts that i figure arent worth spending too much time on. it has 60 pg. immuno stuff and also micro (viral) stuff.. which you may decide to skip.. and also the technical testing stuff and some epi chapters. Since the chapters are only few pages literally.. it might not be a bad idea to skim. If u are to get the 1st, the thought of not getting the bigger version might poke u in the back of ur head.. so this way, you know youre getting all of 1st and lil bit more.. the only excuse you can have for not getting the 2nd is that theres not enough time. thats about it.

i think what soe is saying is that you need to know more than what 2nd edition offers since emphasis on this subject is frequently mentioned on recent exam experiences. good luck.
