A patient that suffers from high cholesterol and high blood pressure, comes to the ER with PAIN in his BIG toe. He also says that even air elicit pain in his toe, the toe is red, edematous and tender:confused:

1- what high blood pressure could precipitate his pain?

2- What is the sign that you will see in a chronic case, in his toe?

3- What food and drinks can elicit the pain?

4- What is the best medication to give in a acute case?

This is Gout
tell me about the pressure range which can precipitate gout

In his toe one can find podgra[in metatarsophalangeal joint]

alcohol [or large meals can precipitate acute gout] Lactate produced by alchohol competes with urate for its excretion

NSAIDS/steroids, colchicine can be given in acute state
