I'm sorry for starting a bunch of threads, so if it's against the rules please forgive me. I want to know if most 1st semester students live in the dorms or off campus? Are you required to live in the dorms your first semester? If not, would you guys recommend living there at least for the first semester?

If you are starting in August you will be very lucky to get a dorm. Dorms are nice and they are really fun to live in when you know that majority of the people living here are your class fellows. It makes things much easier.

I would live in a dorm. One less thing to worry about when you are getting into the groove of things.

I second that...
Live in dorms 1st, get used to the island life. Then get a apt. when you finish 1st.

I fourth that. Dorms, socialize, make friends, party, then apartment.

Yep, dorms. It gives you time to meet people and shop around for an appt. so you don't get messed over by spending a lot of money on a crappy place

I'd recommend a cot in the anatomy lab.

No wonder I always got backaches when I slept in the anatomy lab.

I haven't been accepted yet. Assuming that I do, wouldn't it be hard for me to get a dorm now? And, are private dorms harder to get?

Wait until you are accepted and then contact MEAS about dorm availability.

Generally singles are in greater demand than doubles, yes.
