just got an email stating that MEAS has moved to a new location, same address but the suite is number 700.

this is important for people sending mail to MEAS
American University of the Caribbean (http://www.aucmed.edu/contactus.htm)

I am sure it will be forwarded for at least a while, but it is not worth the risk...:)

ha! You're getting a car shipped? I guess it is a known known and not an unknown known type of deal.

What model car, if you don't mind me asking.

i was down by the miami river and ponce de leon blv once in 2001 before i even knew i wanted to go to med school let alone a foreign school and was in the same building that the auc offices are at and in a twsit of karma laughed at it thinking what kind of loosers go there...hehe well it ended up being me.

oddly enough it kind of looks like the campus...spanish style maybe a darker yellow paint and if i recall correctly even off white columns.

Yup...definitely taking my car! It's a 2001 Rav4L, in almost-new condition. When I read that having air conditioning that works was a desired feature and not something that was just expected, I knew I'd be taking my car. It's also got a good sound system in it and maybe most importantly (from what I've read on the forums), an alarm!

I also decided that by the time I leave the island in 2009, it will be 8 years old and around the time I'd sell it anyway. So, as long as I can get a decent price for it (it'll probably be one of the nicer cars on the island from what I saw when I was there), I'll be leaving it.

Sounds like a good trade-off of SUV vs. decent gas consumption. I don't know if it would be better to pay the $2000 to ship a car from Florida or take that same money and add it to the cash I would potentially spend on a car on the island.

Gas consumption on the island is not high. You can't go fast and the island is like 34 sq. mi. The rav4 will be perfect for lake cupecoy flooding when it rains hard and selling the car afterwards will be easy enough as there will always be a student or a local who'll want it.

Yea, I hear MEAS moved to one floor rather than being split between two floors of the same building. I am sure the forwarding will be appreciated by the new tenants (I would bet on a law firm) who will be inundated by AUC mail from students who do not write the new address.

It would be so much more exciting if their office burned down and we all get a free semesters tuition for the inconvenience, but then I wake up and realize they just want to stop climbing stairs.

I would think that suite 1 would be closer to the ground than 700.

Besides, concider this a standing order, if anyone goes to drop by the office, take pictures so we all can see how much gold was used in decorations.

I always figured they ran a sweat shop in Miami with all the gold being left on the island where our Beloved Golden Chancellor resides. I have a feeling his great return from the lands of China will occur shortly. The cafeteria has missed his presence eating those culinary delights of the cafeteria (I never could figure out why someone with so much money would actually eat that food?). I have heard that is typical of the old world Chinese.

I shipped my car down there before getting it looked over thoroughly by my mechanic. I remember before I went to the island, everybody thought it wasn't that good of an idea. Well, I enjoyed the A/C while my roommate bought a car down there for $2400 that broke down three weeks later. Hands down, best decision I made was to ship my OWN car down there. People like SOE like to sell incoming students a piece of crap....

It's worth the $2000 for me because I know that my car's in very good shape and it's nice. I have no idea what I'd be able to find down there. Also, as far as gas, I'm planning on getting a scooter and using that most of the time if I'm not shopping or taking people around. So I shouldn't be using much gas anyway.

I was told that a scooter is risky b/c of all of the puddles, crazy drivers and crappy roads. Your name should be Mr. moneybags...lol

Wanna go halvsies on a small fishing boat when I get down there, too...lol

When I was down there visiting, I used a scooter the whole week and it was great! Very good way to get around traffic jams. I didn't have any problem with the roads, just have to go a little slower around the school.

Yes, lets get a boat. It will be the party boat :D

Hope you don't end up in the hospital there because some jerk cuts you off or it gets stolen (which invariably *WILL* Happen)..

Seriously, I wonder if the average AUC student would have enough time to enjoy a boat. If it is only used once per month then it might be wasted money. Once every 2-3 weeks would definitely be worth it, though:)

If block exams were abolished, then yes, you'd have more time.

Can you give me some details on what services there are to ship a car, prices, and contact info? Or at least, point me in the right direction?

Price for my car (2001 Rav-4) was $1850 + insurance, you have to get it to their port in Miami. It takes about a week to arrive in SXM. This has been answered in detail before though fairly recently. Do a search.
