there is no harm in applying. you should send in your application as soon as possible and if you don't get sept, they'll give u jan 08. i know this guy who received his admission package from saba this week and he applied in February. he said he didn't get sept 07 so they gave him jan 08.
all in all, give it a shot. best of luck!

i believe he had a 3.5 GPA in a Biochemistry major and I don't know his exact MCAT score but i think it was mid 20's.

i think that you should better start looking for other options if 55= seats are already filled indeed. depending on luck may run you out of time...;)

I've heard from people who have been having their interviews lately that the admissions staff is offering them the January semester rather than the September one. And right now its easier to get into the Jan 08 semester.

You should definitely try. It won't hurt - and at the very least they may ask you for Jan 08.
I think they leave a good few seats open for very competitive applicants. Your GPA and MCAT scores are great - but lately, what I am seeing is that the "extras" are what tips people over into an earlier admission.
Good luck!
Definitely apply! I know for sure that some of these 55 + people who hold the acceptance will drop it last minute opening a spot for you!:)

Jan class can match with Sept class. Don't let admin tell you that you can't. It's just harder for then trying to squeeze rotations back-to-back.
It means you'll have to work hard, but if you do everything back-to-back you'll still finish with 2-3months before residency starts. You only need 2-4weeks max post-Saba to take Step 1.
I know many that did this.

I think it really depends on their schedule and the amount of applications you are competing against at that given time. I lucked out and got accepted and notified within 2 weeks of sending in my application.
Hang in there - they will eventually get back to you. I know the wait is unbearable ... Prep yourself real good for the interview in the meantime.
Bonne Chance!

it took me over a month and a half only because they misplaced one of my LOR's. Best thing would be to call them and find out if your application is complete. IF it is, you will be notified real quick

This has been discussed on this site at length. There is a search button directly above the main menu of this section, in a little square on the right side.
Here are some results.

3.3-3.4 gpa depending on which scale they use... omsas or amcas?
AMCAS - 0.2 = OMSAS GPA Scale or if you prefer
OMSAS + 0.2 = AMCAS GPA Scale.
It's no secret that Ontario residents have the toughest time of any students getting into medical school.
Saba uses the OMSAS GPA scale of CDNs, but certainly takes into account the difficulty of the scale. In general, most international schools have bias towards CDN grads because of the curriculum difficulty of CDN schools.

Just curious who established this scale?

check the omsas website...& most ontario schools use the amcas E scale i believe, which makes your omsas gpa approx .2 higher on the amsas gpa scale. for example an 84 is a 3.7 on omsas but 4.0 on amcas, or a 75 is a 3.0 on omsas but 3.7 on amcas. somehow amcas rewards mediocre marks in ontario.

OMSAS is used by ontario and also applies to residents of ontario that apply to a number of out of province med schools or even international schools. I know SABA uses the OMSAS GPA scale for Ontario applicants, but definitely considers the difficulty the GPA scale presents. Case in point - my cGPA by the AMCAS scale is 3.6, but 3.4 on the OMSAS. I have a ton of marks in the 80s, which the AMCAS scale regards as an A = 4.0 (At Queens we're given percents that are accompanied by an A, B, C or F), but the OMSAS will regard as 3.7 or 3.9

most schools in ontario give percentages...mac i think is the only that doesnt. and toronto calculates gpa as well but they have their own scale which is a little bit different than omsas

I believe all medical schools use OMSAS, but there are variations in GPA...Toronto takes all 4 years of undergrad, but knocks off the lowest credit (or two half credits) in each year. Ottawa and Northern Ontario use a weighting system, with 3rd and 4th year being weight the highest. Queens and Western take the best two years (one must be either 3rd or 4th year). Mac requires a minimum cGPA of 3.0 according to OMSAS, but the avg entrance GPA is >3.7.

Hey Mike James,
Maybe you've been accepted by now but I had my interview at the end of May and had applied for the January 2008 semester and they encouraged me to change my preference to the September 2007 semester. The same thing happened to my boyfriend who had his interview last week...we were both accepted for September 2007. So I'm not sure exactly how many spots are left but based on our experiences they still have some spots available in September. I know people from North American medical schools recently found out whether they were accepted to some spots may have opened up in September because of that. A word of advice about your application: if you don't have clinical experience, make sure you're in the midst of getting some before your interview (at least start applying to places so you can tell them that) because they gave my bf provisional Sept. acceptance based on his completion of 50 hours of clinical experience. Luckily I already had some nursing home experience.
Anyway, best of luck to you! :)
