Is anyone else besides me not happy about SGU's ads all over the place? If you go to the health section on cnn.com, its front page. Sure they need to get the word out, but come on, cnn??

How else are they going to fill up all the empty seats...:D

I ACTUALLY think they should really target the big state universities like UMich, UCLA, UNC, Virginia, etc. I know they have pamphlets and posters outside of offices but I think they should do live presentations by satisfied alumni. If students see an SGU grad that has successfully attained a residency and now is a successful doc, it will really hit home that life is not over if you don't get into a stateside school.

In undergrad used to work part time at the bio counseling office as a student counselor and I was never trained to handle questions about foreign schools. In fact, none of the counselors even knew about them. For my part, I went online and did some research and had a general idea of how things in the caribbean work. I don't think the counselors really liked me advising students about going foreign. But I played on semantics and used the phrase "going abroad" for your medical education.

All it matters is how people perceive things, not the facts.

I disagree with the OP. The more people that know about SGU's great reputation and success the better. Your degree will be worth more when you apply for residency.

It just seems like they are pushing SGU as a product. Too many people will get the wrong idea, like oh if I pay enough then I can be a doc too.
I saw another ad in NEJM, which I think is more reasonable.
Just my opinion though.

Use AdBlockPlus for Firefox... Then you don't see the ads. Not that I would ever do that on this site, Doc... :-P
