Do they have General Tso's chicken??

Being Asian, I never HEARD of General Tsau's chicken until a few months ago. I asked another one of my yellow-brothers, they never heard of it either. I still haven't had it yet.

Here's a (possible) explanation for that:

its basically a dish made for Americans. there is no such thing as general tsao chicken in real authentic chinese menu/dish. it has been made popular thus many restaurants serve them. general tsao chicken is basically sesame chicken that is spicy.

have you never eaten at a chinese restaurant in the US? I guess they don't have it canada, if that's where you're from. And I am not surprised that they haven't served it on the battlestar galactica.

No, it's more like how PF chang's is authentic chinese food...

Anyone have a review of that chinese place?

I like the one in LAE but HATE the chinese place in the mall. The one in Lance Aux Epines is owned by actual Chinese people while the one in the mall is owned by trinidadian chinese people. It's like eating the indian food from an trini indian and one from Mumbai. There is a HUGE difference. It's almost not even the same food or taste. For example, the "roti's" that are sold in all the caribbean places are not even on the menu on any of the indian restaurants in the US.

Yes, I'm a big time foodie. I just wish I had a bigger appetite and didn't get full so fast. Actually, after being in Grenada for the entire semester, I think I could eat that gargantuan american-sized trough of a plate of pasta that they serve at fine establishments like cheesecake factory.

I'm from the US. Usually we order off the menu (but I still haven't seen that ON the menu at any rate). And the battlestar galactica is surviving on processed algae.

What's funny is that people will order an appetizer, then eat a salad, then that massive meal, and then have a HUGE peace of mud pie.

At least you MD's won't ever be unemployed in america...

Sounds good, I think I'll try it out tomorrow. I bet the owners were probably workers who stayed after building the stadium.

jade garden is carribean-chinese food.

its quite good, but quite greasy

make sure to try the sweet/sour pork. menu is fairly limited. but cheap.

choo light (in LAE) is good - and not carribean-chinese; quite a bit pricier - but I thought worth the money - if you go there at night, bring bug repellant, as the 'skeeters' are bad.

Cheers,

Silenthunder

eh actually liked jade garden better than choo light- choo light is mostly cantonese- no spice. But there is one on the caranage- can't remember the name- opened right before i left the island in July 05- it was very good!

and roti's are strictly a caribbean food- yes the elements are of a subcontinent origin- after all the trini indians emigrated from india over hundred years ago- but after years of adaption, decidedly different from dishes from india, sri lanka, and bangladesh.

Jade Garden is cheap and decent. The couple who own Choo Light are very nice, but their food is so so. The owners of both restaurant are from Hong Kong. Actually, myself being Chinese and from Hong Kong, the place in the mall is the closest thing I've had to real chinese food in Grenada, in terms of dishes and flavour.

General Tso's chicken belongs in the class of chinese food we call "Westernized Chinese food". Just like fried chicken balls, egg rolls and the like, it was created to please the western palate. It was also created by chinese immigrants to rip off gwai lo (Chinese equivalent to gringo). They give you a crappy tiny piece of meat, cover it in batter and put a sauce on it that is basically orange juice and sugar.

Anyways, anyone in the North Jersey/NYC area wanna eat real chinese food, send me a PM...hahaha

I had a change of heart and decided to fulfill my blackened mahi mahi craving. So, I went over to Red Crab in lance aux epines and had some GREAT mahi mahi, just the way i like it blackened (cajun) with lots of spices and flavor, sides were potato balls, fried banana, veggies.

The fish was prepared almost perfectly imo, it was very moist with a great texture and.... ok this isn't the LAtimes food section so I won't bore you with the details.:D

Overall I highly recommend Red Crab. The outside setting is also nice.

About Jade garden... what are their tastiest dishes?

Off topic: The FDA just approved a prozac type drug for dogs. The drug will help dogs deal with anxiety. The usa is great...;)

they don't have that.. their menu is literally like 10 dishes or less. the chicken dishes are $12EC and the beef and pork dishes are like $14 or 16EC.

Sounds like they've been jacking up prices. Nothing was more than $12EC a few terms back. I really liked the twice cooked pork and the fried chicken with special sauce is good. The fried chicken wings were pretty good too.

The best thing about going to Jade Garden are the cokes. They keep them very very very cold. So cold the liquid forms ice crystals after its been depressurized.

yeah they had a notice one or two terms ago that prices were going up. Still $12 for a meal isn't too bad.

I just got done eating at that place the other day, paid my bill, and as I was leaving I saw some guy selling dogs (yes you read right) dogs that he captured at grand anse to the Chef. Oh and that is not general toas chicken it is general toas kitten.

This thread didn't need a "asian people eat dogs" post...

Well if you do your research you will find that it is a common practice to eat dogs and cats as a delicacy in southern China. And I heard it was quiet good but frowned upon. They say it taste like chicken. HA

I never said asians don't eat dogs/cats... I just said that we didn't need that tangential remark.
