can I buy bug repellant, sunscreen, and a really big umbrella on the island? I can't see myself packing a 4 month supply of the former and lugging around an unbrella on the plane.

No. Every member of faculty as well as every student has to pack 4 months worth of those supplies. They are unobtainable on the island. Come on..........geesh.

The cheapest method is to purchase hot dogs from the bookstore, and "skin" them...that is, remove the inner mystery-meat contents and retain the outer clear covering as a condom-like apparatus. These hot dog outer coverings are akin to Trojan Ultra thins.

And to the OP, yes, you can buy all the materials you request...check stores like BestBuy (which is NOT the same as our electronics super-outlet here in the US). BestBuy is a random-goods store...kinda like a dollar store here in the US, but with the "several-dollah fuh US stoo-DENT price tahg."

There are plenty of condoms. Believe it or not, the bookstore had some too. There is an entire counter filled with contraceptives at the Bullseye pharmacy across from ROSS's front gate.

i've never seen them at the bookstore, and the lady at jame's store gave me a weird look when i asked her where to find them...

i think it's one of those spots where u just gamble, everyone's been HIV tested :)
