Just wondering,

I got these great gor-tex (if you dont know what that is, it makes things waterproof) sneakers and was wondering if they would be useful in grenada seeing ill be coming down during the rainy season?

Does it rain significantly that your shoes would be soaked?

Thanks in advance.

usually if it rains it's only for a few min. and it pours down really hard so everything will get soaked. I say wear sandals that way they will dry faster, and you won't have to sit in class with wet socks. Yes gortex is water proof but the rain comes from all directions. it's impossible to stay dry.

BUT it will be sunny 5min later and so things will dry pretty quickly. that's why i suggest wearing light clothing that dries quickly. it's also warm rain and it's warm outside so it's not like you'll get cold, well maybe if you go into the library or lecture hall wet, but u can just get dry outside in like 20min tops.

my wife and i both got keens a couple of years ago when we went down for the first time. It was definitely the way to go (we got the ones made from nylon, not suede)

Anyone else find it interesting that the locals (guys mostly) don't wear flip flops but most of us students wear flip flops with baggy shorts and a t shirt.

I've cut down on my flip flop wear due to being eaten alive by mosquito's!

Oh yeah, definitely bring down your cleaning kit as your kicks will really get DIRTY.

cleaning kits? you have special kits to clean your sneakers? What do they include? also most locals don't wear flip flops cause they don't have access to comfortable padded flip flops like Rainbow's... And it's more practical to buy shoes.

Yeah, the cleaning kit I have are for keeping puma's/lacoste/kswiss /airforce 1's nice and WHITE! The cleaning kit I have is actually a 3 step process consisting of:

1. Dirt emulsifier. It's basically akin to the Dawn soap you use to initially wash your car as it breaks up dirt.

2. Then I have a solution that basically fills in the scuff marks with a naturally looking coat. This bad boy gets rid of that aging look by blending in the imperfections in the leather.

3. Then I apply a waterproof coat that helps to keep them nice and dry. I usually don't use this too much. This a low yield item overall.

PS: You don't even wanna know the steps I like to utilize when washing the ride... see claybar and zaino, Mcguiars.

About the flip-flops and locals... there is a store in the roundhouses that sells REEF flip flops. From experience, the REEF flip flops with the air pocket in the back are the most comfortable. That store has decent variety too.

yeah i use Mcguiars products on my car too.. but that's just too much hassle for sneakers... besides what do you do with them that they get so dirty? I have one pair on the island that i use for running and going to the gym, and since I paid $150 for them i try to take care of them, but i find that a simple moist towel does the trick. no soap or polish needed. I guess i am not a neat freak like you...

Windex works great to clean sneakers. Nike can be thrown in the washing machine, which is particulary nice for the newer running shoes that don't have leather.
