Sign up right away. You choose the actual test date later down the road -- right now just pick the eligibility period that corresponds to the nj step 1 deadline.

Remember...dont Let The Stress Of Start Dates Affect Ur Study Plan...some Ppl Need 3 Weeks To Study For Step1, While Others Need 3 Months....put All Ur Effort Into It...even If It Means U Start Rotations A Few Weeks Later...no Big Deal..the Long Run Results Will Be Worth It, If You Crush Step 1. If You Dont, Then At Least U Tried

St. Barnabus was like end of July last year. You have to take Step 1 by July 15th.

I find that its better to set a date, have study plan and try to keep to it, many people from my term have still not taken step 1 and are so frustrated with studying, lacking confidence to actually take the test, the whole notion of taking enough time to crush the exam. I felt the same way, took two extra weeks and didnt take it till the end of march. But by the time you actually write the exam, you find that its not memorisation like most of our basic science tests, its unpredictable, with a fair amount of stuff you have never heard of before. The exam tests your ability to reason. Its like any standardized exam, you walk out of it not quite sure how you did, and regret all the time you spent memorising things that didnt even show up on the test. Make a plan and do your best to stick to it, do lots of questions, and be confident.

that being said... can someone please post last year's start date? i've planned on 7/12-14 though i would prefer to take it a little later. is the consensus that it will take six weeks for the score reporting?

most people i know gets their score back in 3-4 weeks, but according to USMLE, it can take up to 6 weeks. so to be on the safe side, i would aim for 6 weeks

Does anyone know the approximate start date for Lutheran for the fall term?
I need to sign up to take the board this summer but I just can't decide on the date. I want to take it the lastest possible date, and it's really frustrating not knowing the approximate start date for the rotation. If anyone has any any idea, i would appreciate your reply very much. Thanks.

I took mine on july 5, but ive heard of people taking the usmle in late july. u should be ready for the test by mid july, after that point the old law of diminishing returns kicks in, ie you start forgetting stuff u learned earlier at the same rate as u learn new stuff. just try and do as many practice questions as possible so u kinda know what to expect, but also read over high yield topics.
