I'll be applying the first week of December of '07, the minute I get my Fall '07 scores for my classes in. I was wondering how long until I apply after do people usually hear from SMU? I read a thread that said approximately 3 weeks, but if anybody could verify exactly how long, that'd be great.

Hey there. Here was my timeline:
Feb 26th- med school applications sent
March 1st- med school applications received
March 23rd- SMU interview
March 30th- Acceptance phone call
**it also took about a week for my letters or reccomendations and official transcripts arrive at SMU admissions office, so they didn't start reviewing my application until about March 7th. So I would say, you should get an answer at the latest one month after your application was sent.
**you can also speed up the process by emailing SMU's enrollment specialist about every week to check the status of your application. They are good with getting back to you the same day...for me it was within the hour most of the time. She would give you timelines (ex. you should be getting a phone call by this friday....if not, make sure you email me and i will check the status...) Also, if you are applying for the class closer to the next starting class date, they will review your application first and get back to you quicker (say if you were applying for the Jan or May class...but if you were applying to Sept or for the year after....don't be worried if they are taking longer than you expected. It's not because your application isn't up to par, it's just because they haven't gotten to you yet). In my case, I was applying for the Sept. class but they were in the process of reviewing applications for May, so they made me wait a bit.
**also, after my interview with the admissions director, I called him a couple times to talk to him about certain questions I had. He answered his cell phone every time I had called. At the end of your interview, he may say that he will contact you no later than a week to give you an answer. If a week has gone by, and you have still not heard anything, do not hesitate to email him with a CATCHY headline (he gets hundreds/day), and if that doesn't work just give him a ring. He should have the decision by then, but just hasn't gotten a chance to call you.
Hope this helps!! :)
If you have other questions lemme know....

Hey thanks! Well, I'm applying in December for the Fall '08 class. I spoke to Ms. N. (very nice lady btw!) and she said I can turn everything in together as one big package, just make sure that the LOR's are in an enclosed approved letter.
Do you think applying in December for Fall '08 class is a bit late?
